How fast is Elon Musk’s Starlink — the results are in

Posted by in categories: Elon Musk, internet

Starlink is faster than ever but is it enough for rural internet users?

While Starlink’s download speeds have increased, Ookla’s Speedtest Intelligence shows that upload speeds decreased by almost 33 percent from 16.29 Mbps during the first quarter of last year to 9.33 Mbps in Q1 2022. At the same time, Starlink’s median latency increased from 40 ms to 43 ms in the U.S. and from 51 ms to 55ms in Canada though these changes are likely negligible for most users.

The U.S. and Canada aren’t the only places Starlink adoption has increased while the service’s speeds have improved as Ookla highlights in its report.

FCC authorizes SpaceX to provide mobile Starlink internet service to boats, planes and trucks

Posted by in categories: Elon Musk, internet, satellites

The Federal Communications Commission authorized SpaceX to provide Starlink satellite internet to vehicles in motion, a key step for Elon Musk’s company to further expand the service.

“Authorizing a new class of [customer] terminals for SpaceX’s satellite system will expand the range of broadband capabilities to meet the growing user demands that now require connectivity while on the move, whether driving an RV across the country, moving a freighter from Europe to a U.S. port, or while on a domestic or international flight,” FCC international bureau chief Tom Sullivan wrote in the authorization posted Thursday.

SpaceX did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment on the FCC decision.

This is What Elon Musk’s First Website (Zip2) Looked Like

Posted by in categories: business, Elon Musk, energy, physics

Global Link Information Network was founded in 1995 by Elon Musk, his brother Kimbal Musk, and Greg Kouri who provided $6,000 in funding. Elon famously dropped out of pursuing a PhD at Stanford in energy physics/material science two days into the program to pursue the opportunity. Global Link Information Network was later renamed as Zip2 and served as a directory for local businesses. In 1996, Zip2 starts pulling data from American Business Information Inc. (ABI) and starts a self-comparison to yellow pages that will continue throughout its lifespan as a brand.

A timeline showing Elon Musk’s first website (Zip2) and its evolutions over the years, starting from 1996 and ending in 2004.

Spaceflight Will Warm Earth’s Stratosphere 4 Degrees, Study Finds

Posted by in categories: Elon Musk, satellites

Black carbon in the atmosphere is like dressing Earth in a black shirt on a sunny day.

In new research published earlier this month, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency (NOAA) simulates the effect of greatly increased spaceflight on the stratosphere. The results show that planned spaceflight over the next few decades could raise Earth’s temperature, change global air currents, and dampen the ozone layer. The study appears in the Journal of Geophysical Research: Atmosphere.

These days, it’s hard to pull up any technology-or science-oriented news site without seeing something about Elon Musk’s satellite launches, his plans to send many ships to Mars, NASA’s big slate of upcoming Artemis mission launches, the rise of private spaceflight, and the increase in national spaceflight from previously unrepresented nations. It’s a huge moment for space, so traffic is about to get worse.

Elon Musk may be an oddball online, but he helped bring a lot of technology to the world. Happy Birthday Elon Musk! Here’s a Look on the Tech CEO’s Significance in the World.

Elon Musk talked about the advantages of Tesla ads in an interview with Tesla supporters, including the President of Tesla Owners Silicon Valley, the President of My Tesla Adventure, and the Kilowatts founder.

Why People are Microchipping their Brains — Next-Gen BCI’s: Neurograins

Posted by in categories: biotech/medical, computing, Elon Musk, neuroscience

Neurograins might be the future of implantable Brain Computer Interfaces due to their advantages in terms of abilities and safety in terms of implantation. Due to being the smallest Microchips ever made, in addition to being very powerful, they can make very high resolution recordings of brain activity and even stimulate areas in the brain for medical treatments for people suffering from brain disorders.

The field of neuroscience is developing at a rapid pace, which constantly improves on our BCI Technology and enabling more and more treatments and applications for Brain Computer Interface. It’s clear that this is very advanced future technology and who knows, maybe these new Neurograin Brain Computer Interfaces may play a part in it. Or maybe Elon Musk’s Neuralink’s approach will win in the end. People willingly microchipping their brains will be more common in the future.

As Crisis Deepens, Tesla Rescinds Job Offers to People Who’d Already Accepted Them

Posted by in categories: economics, Elon Musk, robotics/AI

After announcing at the beginning of the month that the company would be cutting 10 percent of its workforce due to CEO Elon Musks’s “bad feeling about the economy, Tesla’s job slash is in full swing. According to Insider, many newer employees — including workers who had not even begun their newly-accepted positions just yet — are bearing the brunt of the mass layoffs.

“Damn, talk about a gut punch,” wrote Iain Abshier, a brand-new Tesla recruiter, in a LinkedIn post last week. “Friday afternoon I was included in the Tesla layoffs after just two weeks of work.”
