Swiss technology company WayRay has unveiled what it says is the world’s first car to incorporate holographic, augmented reality glazing – the Holograktor. The innovation is designed around the company’s True AR technology and intended to operate with WayRay’s new ride-hailing business model. The system’s USP is its ability to render augmented reality scenes around the vehicle in real time, displayed via holographic projections.

Backed by early investments from companies like Porsche, Hyundai and Alibaba, WayRay says it is using the car to emerge from its ‘deep tech’ automotive supplier status to become a player in the world of new mobility models.

The three-seat vehicle has been conceived specifically for ride hailing and can be driven conventionally or by remote control, in the latter case via a 5G and satellite connection to a qualified driver. Its unusual single rear seat ‘throne’ layout was inspired by data showing that more than 80% of Uber trips were for one person only. “The idea is that you can choose Uber Black, Uber SUV or Uber Holograktor. And if you choose the Holograktor, your ride will be subsidized by sponsored content so that the price will be much lower,” said WayRay founder and CEO, Vitaly Ponomarev.

Months ago, before Windows 11 even shipped, beta users were complaining that Windows 11 was slowing their random write speeds on NVMe SSD by more than half.

Now, three months later and two months after the launch of the OS, it appears the issue is persisting.

Recent CrystalDiskMark benchmarks of the Samsung 980 Pro SSD performed by PleasedPen25317 show a massive reduction in random write speeds for any partition with Windows 11 installed.

Breakthrough Starshot’s ultra-lightweight spacecraft will have to travel four light-years to reach Alpha Centauri. To put it another way, our nearest neighboring star system is a mind-shattering 40,208,000,000,000 (40 trillion) km away from Earth.

As a point of reference, our fastest and most reliable technology today for long-range space travel is the ion thruster, which is powering NASA’s DART mission to a nearby asteroid at speeds of 15,000 mph (24,000 km/h). However, according to NASA, with the ion thruster, it would take 18,000 years, or approximately 2,700 human generations, to get to Alpha Centauri.

Impressively, the Breakthrough Starshot team believes its spacecraft, with the help of lasers located on Earth, will be able to reach unprecedented speeds, allowing it to travel the distance to Alpha Centauri in only 20 years. If it does reach its destination, the probe spacecraft will then send back the first-ever images taken from another solar system, allowing a never-before-seen window to distant planets that may or may not resemble Earth.

Ten men and women are ready to begin training so they can journey to the International Space Station, the moon and beyond. The new astronaut class of 2021 was announced by NASA on Monday.

The 10 astronaut candidates, the first new astronaut class in four years, were selected from more than 12,000 applicants. The agency’s administrator, Bill Nelson, introduced them live from Ellington Field near NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, where the candidates will spend the majority of the next two years training beginning in January 2022.

“Today we welcome 10 new explorers, 10 members of the Artemis generation, NASA’s 2021 astronaut candidate class,” Nelson said. “Alone, each candidate has ‘the right stuff,’ but together they represent the creed of our country: E pluribus unum — out of many, one.”

Disney+, Coinbase, Slack and other websites were taken down for some users as a result of the AWS outage.

“We are seeing improvement in availability across most AWS services,” the notice stated. “We continue to work toward full recovery for all impacted AWS Services and API operations.”

Among the services that reported issues as a result of the outage were Disney’s streaming subscription service, Disney+, Netflix, Slack, Ticketmaster, stock trading app Robinhood, and Coinbase, the largest cryptocurrency exchange in the U.S.

The outage also brought down critical tools used inside Amazon. Warehouse and delivery workers, along with drivers for Amazon’s Flex service, reported on Reddit that they couldn’t access the Flex app or the AtoZ app, making it impossible to scan packages or access delivery routes.

University of Tsukuba researchers have found that only ten minutes of moderate-intensity running increases local blood flow to the various loci in the bilateral prefrontal cortex —the part of the brain that plays an important role in controlling mood and executive functions.
