Materialise CEO on medical 3D Printing

I do love and believe in the benefits of 3D printing; however, as a technologist and concerned informed citizen I do worry about this technology getting the hands of drug lords, terrorists, and other criminals. With Medical 3D printing; illegal drug manufacturing can change overnight and expanded to new levels of mass production. Also, illegal weapon production can be enhanced as well with 3D printing.

At this point, law enforcement in 1st and 2nd world countries are going to face harder times than they ever have in the recent past and before. 3D Printing and AI are truly going to take an already difficult situation for government and their law enforcement teams extremely tough in the coming 3 to 5 years; and hope they and tech come together to figure out a good go forward plan to ensure right benefits are received and progress not slowed down while keeping everyone safe.

IBM’s Watson has been sending me weird but wonderful personalized fitness tips

Hmmm;

When Under Armor released a new, free fitness app, Record, last January, which uses IBM Watson to send you personalized fitness tips, I was pretty excited about it.

Under Armor owns some of my favorite fitness-tracking apps, especially MyFitnessPal.

I use MyFitnessPal to track my diet. That means I use it to verify that half of the time I’m eating fewer calories than I’m burning.

Altman, who’s working on developing an open-source version of AI that would be available to all rather than the few, believes future iterations could be designed to self-police, working only toward benevolent ends. The 30-year-old computer programmer and president of startup incubator Y Combinator says his “OpenAI” system will surpass human intelligence in a matter of decades, but that the fact that it’s available to anyone (as opposed to locked behind private, proprietary doors) should offset any risks.

Robot to sit for China’s national college entrance exam

A Chinese robot is set to compete with grade 12 students during the country’s national college entrance examination next year and get a score qualifying it to enter first-class universities.

The robot being designed will appear in three exams – math, Chinese and a comprehensive test of liberal arts, which includes history, politics and geography, said Lin Hui, CEO of an artificial intelligence company in Chengdu.

The robot will have to finish the exams during designated periods like the other examinees. It will take its exams in a closed room with just proctors and a notary present.

Disrupting manufacturing: Innovation and the future of skilled labor

Again, we all must ask ourselves “What is it that we all need and want v. being told what we need and want by a 20 something old who gets take out or heats up a tv dinner, etc. And, truly what makes sense from an investment, ROI, and security risk adverse investment approach.” 1st, I like making and having my own choices in how I run my house, and operating style at work and private life. 2nd, I don’t trust our out dated digital infrastructure to warrant a great investment in all things AI.

Until I see AI that assist me instead of trying to work against me or replace me as well as having security; then not bought in 100%.

Pre-programming Artificial Intelligence is a Risky Business

Glad to see more folks understanding what I had shared 6 months ago about AI and having entire teams of comprised of the standard SV male. It doesn’t work for AI and will be a barrier in it’s adoption. AI (more than any technology to date) requires a multi-cultural diverse team that reflects the consumers that they are trying to cater to.

Until this one dimensional male dominated engeering teams become more diverse to align with the buying public along with improving the weak under lying connected infrastructure including the net are corrected; AI will not see it’s full potential in the market.

I will ask again, how does a 28 or 33 year male understand how a 48 or 51 year old woman who has been a famers wife feels and her needs; or how does a 28 year old male understands what a 38 or 40 year old female living in the Hamptons needs are for her home, or boutique spa shop geared to other women?.

Filling a unit’s head with rudimentary responses to pre-programmed stimuli will cause it to perform the desired action 100% of the time. Empowered by Artificial Intelligence (AI), these units can be counted on to perform routine duties in the manner prescribed by their presumptive master, circumventing the need for human thought in the process.

The consequences of their actions are irrelevant to these mechanical marvels who have been programmed to eliminate foreign bodies, restrict the actions of those capable of reproduction, build massive armies and torture captured adversaries. There is no way of debating with these locked-in units. The only way to overcome them is with a higher level of thought and action.

The time to end the threat of Artificial Intelligence is upon us. Let your voice be heard in November. Pull the plug on AI.

Wow! SpaceX Nails Rocket Landing At Sea Again

For the second time in less than a month, SpaceX has landed the first stage of its Falcon 9 rocket on a ship at sea.

The booster settled softly onto the deck of SpaceX’s robotic “Of Course I Still Love You” droneship at 1:30 a.m. EDT (0530 GMT) on Friday (May 6), nine minutes after launching from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida on a successful mission to carry the Japanese communications satellite JCSAT-14 to orbit.
