How AI is SAVING MOORES LAW — Chips designed by Artificial Intelligence

It has often been proclaimed that Moore’s Law is dead, but with recent advancements in Artificial Intelligence, computer chips may now be designed 10x faster than before and that in turn, is going to save Moore’s Law and the exponentially increasing processing powers of CPU’s and GPU’s.

These Chips designed by an Artificial Intelligence, are also going to help in the ongoing computer chip shortage. Faster and more quickly desgined chips are definitely a good thing and we might soon be able to see the benefits.

Yuval Noah Harari on The Future of Humanity

Dr. Yuval Noah Harari, macro-historian, Professor, best-selling author of “Sapiens” and “Homo Deus,” and one of the world’s most innovative and exciting thinkers, has a few hypotheses of his own on the future of humanity.

He examines what might happen to the world when old myths are coupled with new godlike technologies, such as artificial intelligence and genetic engineering.

Harari tackles into today’s most urgent issues as we move into the uncharted territory of the future.

According to Harari, we are probably one of the last generation of homo sapiens. Within a century earth will be dominated from entities that are not even human, intelligent species that are barely biological. Harari suggests the possibility that humans are algorithms, and as such Homo sapiens may not be dominant in a universe where big data becomes a paradigm.
Robots and AI will most likely replace us in our jobs once they become intelligent enough.

Although he is hopeful that AI might help us solve many problems, such as healthcare, climate change, poverty, overpopulation etc, he cautions about the possibility of an AI arms race.

Furthermore Dr. Yuval Noah Harari suggests this technology will also allow us to upgrade our brains and nervous systems. For example, humans will be able to connect their minds directly to the internet via brain implants.

Anders Sandberg | Game Theory of Cooperating w. Extraterrestrial Intelligence & Future Civilizations

I think intelligent tool making life is rare but there is plenty of room for those far, far in advance of us. Robert Bradbury, who thought up M-Brains, said he did not think truly hyper advanced entities would bother communicating with us. Being able to process the entire history of human thought in a few millionths of a second puts them further away from us than we are from nematodes. But then that might not be giving them credit for their intelligence and resources, as they might wish to see how well their simulations have done compared to reality.

How robotic exoskeleton technology is helping paralysed people walk again

Even though it appears like something out of the Ironman films, the exoskeleton is finding a niche in everyday life, such as helping people lift heavy objects and supporting medical rehabilitation.

It is unclear if the technology will break out of specific use cases, as it is expensive and does not fit naturally into day-to-day life.

A technology company in China uses robotics and artificial intelligence to provide paraplegics with a feeling they may have forgotten: walking.

$1.1M NIH Grant Will Further AI-powered Research Analysis

A team of scientists from the University of Florida (UF) will use a $1.1 million grant to further their work on the use of artificial intelligence-or AI-powered medical research for predicting and diagnosing Parkinson’s disease while maintaining patient privacy.

This grant, from the National Institutes for Health (NIH), will allow the scientists to train artificial neural network models — computer systems modeled on the human brain and nervous system — and further develop AI technologies that can predict and diagnose Parkinson’s, according to a press release.

“The proposed research will remove a major roadblock that restricts medical data accessibility and hinders cloud-based operations of deep-learning artificial neural networks for biomedical research,” the investigators said.

Artificial intelligence may cause breakthrough to improve weapons’ parameters — Putin

Putin stressed that the work on a unified system of reference data for shaping the program was already underway at the Ministry.

“The key task here is to ensure the weapon systems and equipment that will be manufactured and supplied to the armed forces under this program should reliably protect Russia from potential threats,” he concluded.

K Line leads joint project on AI-based navigation for autonomous ships

The agreement is part of K Line’s Initiative for Expediting Implementation of Autonomous Ships.

The joint R&D project aims to develop a system that will prevent serious maritime accidents such as ship collisions and groundings and that will lead to autonomous ship operations by combining K Line’s manoeuvring knowledge and experience in safe ship operation over many years, JRC marine equipment’s knowledge and advanced radio technology developed, and YDK’s steering and propulsion control technology.

The aim is to develop a comprehensive system that will further improve the safety of ship operations by utilising the knowledge and technologies of the three partners in each process from situation awareness by the seafarer to maneuvering control of the ship, combined with the most advanced technologies provided by Groke Technologies, Fujitsu, and Forum8.
