A team of 5G researchers has set a new world record for spectrum efficiency with the wireless technology, Massive MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output), overwhelming today’s existing 4G technology, 22-fold. To test how well the technology works in a real world setting, the researchers from Bristol will visit Lund at the end of August.

In the future, users are expected to exchange much more information over the spectrum. However, with its dwindling supply, we need to find a way to exchange all this new data more efficiently without causing delays for everyone using the available spectrum.

In response to this insufficiency, many researchers have been conducting experiments using a form of 5G technology called Massive MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) which would allow for the simultaneous transfer of data with the use of multiple transmitters and receivers.

Thanks to a sleek new computer chip developed by IBM, we are one step closer to making computers work like the brain.

The neuromorphic chip is made from a phase-change material commonly found in rewritable optical discs (confused? more on this later). Because of this secret sauce, the chip’s components behave strikingly similar to biological neurons: they can scale down to nanometer size and perform complicated computations rapidly with little energy.

Experts from Heimdal security firm discovered a new crimeware kit, the Scylex malware kit, that aims to provide Zeus-grade Capabilities.

Security experts from the Heimdal security firm have discovered a new DIY financial crime kit offered for sale on a notorious malicious hacker forum on the dark web called Lampeduza.

The new crime kit, dubbed Scylex malware kit, allows cyber criminals to roll their own ZeuS-like malware. The malware implements the features of common banking trojan, such as stealing online banking passwords, intercept web traffic and of course establish a backdoor on the infected Windows-based machine.

While building a shape-shifting liquid metal T-1000 Terminator may still be far on the horizon, the pioneering work by researchers at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia, is setting the foundation for moving beyond solid state electronics towards flexible and dynamically reconfigurable soft circuit systems.

Modern electronic technologies like smart phones and computers are mainly based on circuits that use solid state components, with fixed metallic tracks and semiconducting devices.

Meantime, China is refusing US tech and companies in many areas of its industry over US involvement of the S. China Sea decisions handed down by a tribunal at The Hague. And, everyone knows about the new partnership in the recent months between China and Russia. Looks like US largest GDP producer is battling on many fronts.

Russian antitrust authorities charged U.S. tech giant Apple on August 8 with fixing the retail prices for iPhones in the country.

The Federal Antimonopoly Service said its investigation “showed that from the start of official sales of iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus in Russia, the majority of resellers set identical prices for them and held them for a certain period.”

It said resellers’ prices also coincide for other iPhone models. It named 16 retailers, including Russia’s Vimpelcom and Apple’s official online store, that allegedly take part in price fixing that it said was “coordinated” by the Apple group.

Nobody was killed or even injured. But a minor accident involving a Tesla Model S running on Autopilot in China is again raising questions about exactly how the feature works.

The electric car company said Wednesday that it is investigating the Aug. 2 incident. The driver’s Tesla sideswiped a Volkswagen that was parked halfway in the lane of a busy Beijing highway. The company said Autopilot was engaged and the driver was not holding the steering wheel.

But the driver, Luo Zhen, claimed he was misled by Tesla. He told the Reuters news agency that Tesla salespeople described Autopilot as a “self-driving” system. On a test drive, he said “the demonstrator took his hands off the steering wheel and took his feet off the accelerator and the brake.”
