Airbus reveals ambitious plan for autonomous flying taxis

Posted by in categories: drones, robotics/AI

If a self-flying taxi scheme didn’t come from the world’s second largest aeronautical company, we might think it was a prank. However, Airbus appears to be serious about its “Vahana” project, aimed at creating an autonomous passenger drone network, and thinks testing can begin as early as 2017. That sounds ambitious, to say the least, but “many of the technologies needed, such as batteries, motors and avionics are most the way there,” according to Airbus engineer Rodin Lyasoff.

Users arriving at, say, an airport would book a seat on a so-called zenHop “CityAirbus” drone, then proceed to a “zenHub” helipad, according to the concept. They’d be flown to their destination for about the same cost as a taxi, since the ride would be shared by several passengers. Luggage would be delivered by another service (zenLuggage, of course), and the whole thing would be safeguarded from hackers by (wait for it) zenCyber.

8/18: Mobius Malady w/ Rosemary Ellen Guiley

Posted by in category: quantum physics

Interesting read on history’s Quantum journey.

Since the dawn of the new millennium and in this slow and daunting journey through the first 15 years of the century, “quantum theory” has been a great aggregate explaining all that is possible. There have been a number of people who speak about the esoteric in terms of quantum entanglement as the halfway point between science and magic. It has been implied and critically so, that quantum mechanics are somehow proof or a good reason to say that anything can happen and it usually does.

However, it may be said accurately that rather, quantum possibilities should really be about probabilities which can be analyzed on a sub atomic level.

‘Great Leap Forward’: Chinese Satellite Uses Quantum Teleportation Technology

Posted by in categories: quantum physics, space travel

Hmmm; sure hope others catch up soon.

China has launched a satellite that it claims has teleportation-like quantum communication capabilities.

While humanity may be a long way from “beaming” humans aboard a starship, scientists have made major strides in teleporting information. In March, German physicists made major advances in “quantum teleportation,” transmitting data across physical distance without a time delay.

Beam My DNA Up to Space, Scotty! New Project Aims to ‘Immortalize’ Humanity

Posted by in categories: biotech/medical, space travel

A new spin on DNA in space.

A new crowdfunding project could see humanity immortalized in space. Voices of Humanity, has one key goal and that is to help everyone on planet Earth to engage directly in space exploration.

The Voices of Humanity project is led by Professor Philip Lubin from Orlando University has developed the idea in the hope it will help them to develop a first generation laser-driven small spacecraft as part of NASA’s program to explore interstellar flight.

Those crazy Russians are at it again.

# UFO # AlienRussia’s Secret UFO War: The Kremlin Has Allegedly Been Fighting A War Against Giant (Video) : Two experts in Russian Ufology claim in a new book that since early in the Soviet era, there have been strange and alarming reports about Russian navy personnel encountering mysterious alien beings and underwater crafts in frozen northern waters, especially in the East Siberian Sea.

Is Apple’s China R&D centre an attempt to show that China is more important than India?

Posted by in category: mobile phones

I do wish Tim a lot of luck.

Going by the data from all quarters, the iPhone maker isn’t in the best of shapes when it comes to the China market. It’s the slow down in the China market that seemingly compelled Tim Cook to look at India with hopes. After all, never before has India got mentioned in Apple’s earnings call, and this was also the first time that Tim Cook visited India to make a slew of announcements. Today, we have the first (in Asia) R&D centre for Maps and an incubator in Bengaluru, along other announcements.

If you were thinking that India is finally becoming the ‘apple’ of Tim Cook’s eyes, then the latest announcements will tell you otherwise. Tim Cook has announced that Apple will have an R&D centre in China by the end of the year. And why not, Apple believes that we are where China was 6–7 years ago. But that’s not all, the company may have also miffed officials with its R&D in India announcements.

This New Equation Could Unite The Two Biggest Theories in Physics

Posted by in categories: information science, quantum physics, space

# Physics # TheoriesThis New Equation Could Unite The Two Biggest Theories in Physics : In a recent paper, a Stanford theoretical physicist develops a new equation, one which indicates that the key to finally connecting general relativity and quantum mechanics is found in bizarre spacetime tunnels called wormholes.

One of the most stubborn problems in physics today is the fact that our two best theories to explain the Universe – general relativity and quantum mechanics – function perfectly well on their own, but as soon as you try to combine them, the maths just doesn’t work out.

But a Stanford theoretical physicist has just come up with a new equation that suggests the key to finally connecting the two could be found in bizarre spacetime tunnels called wormholes.

The birth of quantum holography—making holograms of single light particles

Posted by in categories: particle physics, quantum physics

Until quite recently, creating a hologram of a single photon was believed to be impossible due to fundamental laws of physics. However, scientists at the Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw, have successfully applied concepts of classical holography to the world of quantum phenomena. A new measurement technique has enabled them to register the first-ever hologram of a single light particle, thereby shedding new light on the foundations of quantum mechanics.

Scientists at the Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw, have created the first ever hologram of a single light particle. The spectacular experiment was reported in the prestigious journal Nature Photonics. The successful registering of the hologram of a single photon heralds a new era of quantum holography, which offers a whole new perspective on quantum phenomena.

“We performed a relatively simple experiment to measure and view something incredibly difficult to observe: the shape of wavefronts of a single photon,” says Dr. Radoslaw Chrapkiewicz.
