The world’s first fully electric vertical take-off and landing flying car is unveiled in China

It can be maneuvered quite easily while flying as it has full range of motion in the air.

XPENG AEROHT, the largest flying car company in Asia, released the latest version of the world’s first fully electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) flying car last week in China, according to a press release by the company.


Designed for both flying and driving

“Designed for both air flight and road driving, the flying car conveniently features a sleek rotor fold-away system for seamless conversation between driving and flying. It is equipped with a new flight control system equipped with fault-tolerant control functions and a dual-engine backup system to ensure safety,” said the statement.

Tesla Cybertruck production reportedly delayed further to 2023 end

Fans of Tesla’s much-awaited Cybertruck may have to wait for yet another year to see their dream pickup at their doorstep. According to a Reuters.

When Elon Musk first showcased the Cybertruck, it immediately caught the eye of many motorheads. With a $100 fee to book the truck, many jumped in the fray to get one. Years have now rolled by, and Tesla has been pushing back production dates.

First scheduled for production in 2021, the rollout timeline was shifted by a year, first to 2022, then another to 2023. While it was earlier expected that the futuristic pickup would go into production early in the year, it now appears that it has been pushed further into the fag end of the year.

Researchers use lasers to trick autonomous cars and remove pedestrians from view

Software upgrades could help resolve the issue.

A collaboration of researchers from the U.S. and Japan has demonstrated that a laser attack could be used to blind autonomous cars and delete pedestrians from their view, endangering those in its path, according to a press release.

Autonomous or self-driving cars rely on a spinning type of radar system called LIDAR that helps the vehicle sense its surroundings. Short for Light Detection and Ranging, the system emits laser lights and then captures its reflections to determine the distances between itself and the obstacles in its path.

Most advanced autonomous cars today rely on this system to steer through obstacles in their path. However, the collaboration of researchers from the University of Florida, the University of Michigan, and the University of Electro-Communications in Japan showed the system can be tricked with a fairly basic laser setup.

Half Company designs transport network that combines cable cars with AI

A network of autonomous cable cars transports people and goods around a city in this concept developed by transport design studio Half Company.

Halfgrid is a proposal for a city-wide transport system that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to move suspended capsules to their designated location.

It is billed as “a fully autonomous transit system for people and goods, running on a separate layer above the ground and based on the smallest unit possible — an individual person-sized pod”.

It’s a simple enough process, and through well over 100 years of fettling and refining, petrol engines have become ever more potent, economical, and advanced.

World’s largest plane flies with a hypersonic vehicle for the first time

The flight lasted for five hours and six minutes over the Mojave Desert.

For the first time on Friday, October 28, Stratolaunch’s Roc, the world’s largest plane, flew a prototype of the Talon-A separation test vehicle, TA-0, its air-launched hypersonic vehicle.

According to a press release, the flight centered on measuring the aerodynamic loads on the Talon-A vehicle. “The loads captured in flight will validate aerodynamic predictions to ensure the release mechanism will function as designed,” it said.

The flight, which was Roc’s eighth, lasted for five hours and six minutes over the Mojave Desert, reaching an altitude of 23,000 feet (7,000 meters).

China: Lithium batteries may soon power ‘world’s largest fleet’ of submarines

With an estimated 60 to 70 vessels, China allegedly possesses the largest fleet of conventional submarines in the world.

The Chinese Navy could finally use lithium technology to replace the lead-acid batteries that are now used in its fleet of conventional submarines.

Since lithium batteries had a higher risk of catching fire or exploding, the navy was hesitant to replace the submarine fleet’s current batteries with them.
