Europe’s new reusable spacecraft is more like a ‘large Crew Dragon’ than Starship

Posted by in categories: innovation, space travel

SUSIE’s vertical landing capabilities draw comparisons to SpaceX’s Starship. Europe’s not quite there yet, but it’s a step in the right direction.

French aerospace giant ArianeGroup revealed a new concept for a reusable upper-stage spacecraft called Smart Upper Stage for Innovative Exploration, or SUSIE.

China tests maglev cars that travel at 230kph while floating 35mm above the road

Posted by in categories: innovation, transportation

China appears to be a leader in maglev technology and continues to find innovative ways to use it.

A car equipped with magnetic levitation (maglev) technology has been successfully tested on a highway in East China’s Jiangsu province, according to an article by China Daily.

Provincial transport authorities are testing a new highway lane for maglev cars. The experiment saw a 2.8-tonne car float 35 millimeters above the road and run smoothly on a highway without crashing or veering.

Reawaken the Ovaries to Give Birth — Medical Frontiers-JAPAN Live & Programs

Posted by in categories: biotech/medical, innovation

A treatment developed by a Japanese doctor and his team is helping women with premature menopause to give birth with their own eggs. Premature menopause is triggered by a malfunctioning of the ovaries and affects even those in their teens. The treatment involves activating dormant primordial follicles. We focus on the method, which has been described by TIME Magazine as a global breakthrough. We also introduce herbs that can alleviate symptoms such as those of menopause.

Article originally published on LINKtoLEADERS under the Portuguese title “Sem saber ler nem escrever!”

In the 80s, “with no knowledge, only intuition”, I discovered the world of computing. I believed computers could do everything, as if it were an electronic God. But when I asked the TIMEX Sinclair 1000 to draw the planet Saturn — I am fascinated by this planet, maybe because it has rings —, I only glimpse a strange message on the black and white TV:

Five INL innovations that are changing the world

Posted by in categories: energy, innovation

One of the biggest contributions in the near future could come from smaller, more compact reactors. Several microreactor designs are currently under development in the United States that will be smaller in size, more flexible to operate and versatile enough to provide energy to end users for a variety of services ranging from electricity production to water purification.

Engineers Turn a Laser Beam into a Stream of Liquid

Posted by in categories: energy, innovation

Circa 2017 I think with a light into matter laser we could create water but this idea could be a first step.

Lasers are one of the iconic breakthroughs of 20th century science. They produce coherent photons in tight beams of specific energy. They can transmit data, detect molecules, and burn through metal. The photons they produce also have significant momentum.

And that raises an interesting question. Is it possible to transfer this momentum to generate matter rays such as a liquid flow? Not until now.
