A large underwater site that was home to hundreds of thousands of people has been identified and mapped by scientists. Rising seas submerged the land northwest of Australia at the end of the last glacial period.

Using newly available high-resolution sonar data, the research team reconstructed the topography of the 400,000 square kilometers of land that is now covered by the Indian Ocean, known as the Northwest Shelf.
I always kinda knew that human civilization predated Sumer and Akkad (one look at the ruins of Catal Hoyuk and Mohenjo Daro explains what I mean, as those towns date to around 7500 BCE, several millennia BEFORE Sumer and Akkad), but if this find is correct, then civilization on Earth began at least in the latter part of the last ice age!
