Dutch photographer and digital designer Bas Uterwijk has used artificial intelligence to create a ‘photograph’ of Alexander the Great… or what he could have looked like.

Uterwijk who has a background in computer graphics, 3D animation, and special effects, has used his talent to generate hyper-realistic portraits of famous historical figures.

His latest creation is Alexander the Great, otherwise referred to as the “King of Kings”. He was born on July 20 or 21, 356 B.C. in Pella, Macedonia. He was tutored by philosopher Aristotle until the age of 16. He became King of the Ancient Greek Kingdom of Macedonia and led a Pan-Hellenic military campaign against Persia and in the process spread Greek culture across the entire empire he created.

The Axel Springer Prize is awarded annually to outstanding individuals who are extremely innovative, create new markets and change old markets, shape culture and value social responsibility. Musk will accept the award on December 1, 2020, at Axel Springer’s headquarters in Berlin. The theme of the evening is “An Evening for Elon Musk — Mission to Mars.”

Physicists at Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden, together with colleagues in Russia and Poland, have managed to achieve ultra-strong coupling between light and matter at room temperature. The discovery is of importance for fundamental research and might pave the way for advances in light sources, nanomachinery and quantum technology.

A set of two coupled oscillators is one of the most fundamental and widely used systems in physics. It is a very general toy model that describes a plethora of systems including guitar strings, acoustic resonators, the physics of children’s swings, molecules and chemical reactions, gravitationally bound systems, and quantum cavity electrodynamics.

The degree of coupling between the two oscillators is an important parameter that mostly determines the behavior of the coupled system. However, not much is known about the by which two pendula can couple to each other—and what consequences such coupling can have.

YouTube will start using AI to automatically add age restrictions to videos “over the coming months,” the company announced on Tuesday.

The site currently relies on content reviewers to flag videos that aren’t appropriate for viewers under 18, but will soon start using machine learning to detect content for review. Uploaders will be able to appeal the system’s decisions.

In addition, viewers who try to evade the restrictions by watching videos embedded on third-party websites will be redirected to YouTube, where they’ll have to sign-in to show they’re over 18.

Before #COVID19, we like to imagine a #future where we can get and do anything from home, including working, with the help of novel #technologies such as #VR and #AR.

However, the #COVID19 pandemic shows us the human nature, that is, “going out” is one of the basic needs for human being!

One revelation here is that: When speaking of how #technology can change our lives, we often neglect the humane factors and focus only on the technical ones. Take #VR as an example. Yes, it does allow you to have a shopping experience similar to (or even better than) shop outside. However, do you really want to stay at home 24/7 and complete everything online?

Earlier this year, Axiom Space announced it signed a deal with SpaceX to launch a crew of four private passengers to the International Space Station (ISS) aboard the Crew Dragon spacecraft. New details emerged about who those passengers will be, turns out, the voyage is booked for Hollywood actor Tom Cruise, who is notorious for putting his life on the line to perform his own stunts in the action-packed saga ‘Mission: Impossible.’

Cruise will ride alongside producer Doug Liman who will film the first movie in outer space. One of the passengers will be former NASA Astronaut Michael Lopez-Alegria. He is heading back to orbit as Dragon-ship commander for Axiom’s space tour with Cruise. SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket will propel Dragon to orbit towards the Space Station where they will stay for eight days to film in microgravity and enjoy beautiful views of Earth. The fourth passenger has not been revealed yet, it will probably be a Hollywood actress that will join them. They are scheduled to embark on a 10-day voyage to the Space Station in October 2021.
