The hidden danger of ChatGPT and generative AI

Posted by in categories: Elon Musk, information science, robotics/AI

Check out the on-demand sessions from the Low-Code/No-Code Summit to learn how to successfully innovate and achieve efficiency by upskilling and scaling citizen developers. Watch now.

Since OpenAI launched its early demo of ChatGPT last Wednesday, the tool already has over a million users, according to CEO Sam Altman — a milestone, he points out, that took GPT-3 nearly 24 months to get to and DALL-E over 2 months.

The “interactive, conversational model,” based on the company’s GPT-3.5 text-generator, certainly has the tech world in full swoon mode. Aaron Levie, CEO of Box, tweeted that “ChatGPT is one of those rare moments in technology where you see a glimmer of how everything is going to be different going forward.” Y Combinator cofounder Paul Graham tweeted that “clearly something big is happening.” Alberto Romero, author of The Algorithmic Bridge, calls it “by far, the best chatbot in the world.” And even Elon Musk weighed in, tweeting that ChatGPT is “scary good. We are not far from dangerously strong AI.”

EU countries adopt a common position on Artificial Intelligence rulebook

Posted by in category: robotics/AI

EU ministers green-lighted a general approach to the AI Act at the Telecom Council meeting on Tuesday (6 December). EURACTIV provides an overview of the main changes.

The AI Act is a flagship legislative proposal to regulate Artificial Intelligence technology based on its potential to cause harm. The EU Council is the first co-legislator to finish the first step of the legislative process, with the European Parliament due to finalise its version around March next year.

“The Czech presidency’s final compromise text takes into account the key concerns of the member states and preserves the delicate balance between the protection of fundamental rights and the promotion of uptake of AI technology,” said Ivan Bartoš, Czechia’s Deputy Prime Minister for Digitalisation.

These are the Principles of the Singularity | David Wood on Feedback Loop, ep 80

Posted by in categories: business, education, robotics/AI, singularity, transhumanism

This week our guest is David Wood, a long-time futurist and renowned transhumanist thinker. David has authored 10 books on the subject of our technological future, including his recently published book Singularity Principles: Anticipating and Managing Cataclysmically Disruptive Technologies.

In addition to exploring some of the principles and ideas from David’s latest publication, this episode takes a wide but succinct tour of the singularity. This includes (but is certainly not limited to) the rise of artificial general intelligence, and whether we should merge with AI or if it will be a conscious entity separate from humans. We also discuss the variety of challenges that could push us towards a negative Singularity, as well as the many opportunities that could propel us toward an abundant and thriving future.

A new AI system will enable multiple robots to recognize people. A Japanese company has developed an AI system that makes it possible for multiple moving robots to identify people whose images have been uploaded in advance.

This new ability was examined during a pilot test in which images sent from robots in various locations within an event space were analyzed and compiled in the cloud using an AI engine. By utilizing the AI system, robots could identify specific people from camera images sent by various types of robots and to perform cloud-based confirmation. According to eenewseurope.com, The test also demonstrated that people’s locations could be pinpointed by using the positions of the robots.
