Three most likely creation theories for the phantom “Planet Nine”

Posted by in category: computing

A team of researchers from the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics has released a paper outlining the probability for each of the three leading theories explaining how the phantom “Planet Nine” could have ended up in its current theorized orbit.

The existence of Planet Nine is predicated on a series of computer simulations ran by a pair of Caltech scientists to explain the trajectory of six Kuiper Belt objects, which may have been sent in to highly eccentric orbits after an encounter with a huge body roughly 10 times the mass of Earth.

The researchers asserted that the planet takes between 10 — 20 thousand years to traverse a single, highly-elliptical orbit, ranging between 40 and 140 billion miles from the Sun.

Own a piece of Siberia for free: Russia offers hectare of land to citizens willing to move to Far East

Russia’s new frontier land grab. Anyone wanting to move to Siberia?

WASHINGTON — Call it the Muscovite version of “manifest destiny.” On Monday, President Vladimir Putin signed into law a bill that offers every Russian citizen a tract of land in their country’s remote Far East.

“All citizens will be entitled to apply for up to hectare of land in the Kamchatka, Primorye, Khabarovsk, Amur, Magadan and Sakhalin regions, the republic of Sakha, or the Jewish and Chukotka autonomous districts,” the Moscow Times reports. This is a vast stretch of territory spanning the upper Arctic reaches near Alaska, down to islands off the coast of Japan and deep into the Siberian hinterland.

WW3 Scenario: Pentagon No Match Against Russia & China’s Supersonic Warheads

Posted by in category: military

The United States is preparing for war against two of the threats it has named constantly: Russia and China. However, the West may have to think twice before truly waging a war against the two countries as new reports say the military gap between the US and the two countries are closing in. Are Russia and China now at par with the United States?

American military analysts are claiming that military advancements in Russia and China now pose serious threats to the United States. Furthermore, the analysts said that it is no longer safe for America to continue pursuing its presence in the South China Sea, especially near where China has deployed considerable military assets. Russia previously also said that the United States is not safe in the Baltic Sea especially given the recent military encounters.

“Since the end of the Cold War, the US military has never really had to fight an enemy that had its own arsenal of precision-guided weapons,” said Mark Gunzinger, senior fellow at the US Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments as reported by The Hill.

Our brain suppresses perception related to heartbeat, for our own good

Posted by in categories: computing, neuroscience

An interesting and important twist for researchers studying the replication of the brain and thought processes in computers.

Researchers have discovered that the human brain suppresses the sensory effects of the heartbeat. They believe that this mechanism prevents internal sensations from interfering with the brain’s perception of the external world. This mechanism could also have something to do with anxiety disorders.

Laser Brain Cancer Treatment May Offer Extra Advantage

Posted by in categories: biotech/medical, neuroscience, security

Neurosurgeons using lasers to treat brain cancer have discovered that the technique breaks down the blood-brain barrier, a finding that could lead to new treatment options for patients with the deadly disease.

The blood-brain barrier is sort of a natural “security system” that shields the brain from toxins in the blood but also blocks potentially helpful drugs such as those used in chemotherapy.

“We were able to show that this blood-brain barrier is broken down for about four weeks after you do this laser therapy,” said Dr. Eric Leuthardt, a professor of neurosurgery at Washington University in St. Louis. “So not only are you killing the tumor, you are actually opening up a window of opportunity to deliver various drugs and chemicals and therapies that could otherwise not get there.”
