This New Equation Could Unite The Two Biggest Theories in Physics
# Physics # Theories – This New Equation Could Unite The Two Biggest Theories in Physics : In a recent paper, a Stanford theoretical physicist develops a new equation, one which indicates that the key to finally connecting general relativity and quantum mechanics is found in bizarre spacetime tunnels called wormholes.
One of the most stubborn problems in physics today is the fact that our two best theories to explain the Universe – general relativity and quantum mechanics – function perfectly well on their own, but as soon as you try to combine them, the maths just doesn’t work out.
But a Stanford theoretical physicist has just come up with a new equation that suggests the key to finally connecting the two could be found in bizarre spacetime tunnels called wormholes.
Beyond Neptune, a chunk of ice is orbiting the sun in the wrong direction
Beyond the orbit of Neptune, the farthest recognized-planet from our sun, lies the mysteries population known as the Trans-Neptunian Object (TNOs). For years, astronomers have been discovering bodies and minor planets in this region which are influenced by Neptune’s gravity, and orbit our sun at an average distance of 30 Astronomical Units.
NASA just made all the scientific research it funds available for free
NASA just announced that any published research funded by the space agency will now be available at no cost, launching a new public web portal that anybody can access.
The free online archive comes in response to a new NASA policy, which requires that any NASA-funded research articles in peer-reviewed journals be publicly accessible within one year of publication.
“At NASA, we are celebrating this opportunity to extend access to our extensive portfolio of scientific and technical publications,” said NASA Deputy Administrator Dava Newman. “Through open access and innovation we invite the global community to join us in exploring Earth, air, and space.”
“Super-Babies to a Quantum Portal to the Cosmos” –China’s 2016 Headlines Foreshadow Control of the Planet & Beyond
As I highlighted earlier, we now understand more about the telescope announcement 3 months ago and its tie with the Quantum Satellite. Also, we are aware of China’s efforts to be the world leader of tech as they have proven in Pharmaceuticals (namely the generic brand market). Space is another area they have passion due to the opportunities in mining rare and raw materials, etc. Things are getting extremely interesting for sure.
BTW — the balance of tech power is changing; and we could see soon a day that folks look towards China stating the future of tech v. SV.
In 2016, with headlines announcing yesterday’s launch of the first quantum computer to the completion of the world’s largest radio telescope, China is emerging as the new science super power, opening portals to new and uncharted territory with some of the world’s most powerful and costly research hardware at their disposal.
Prof. Lubin Wants to Send Our Digital Selves to the Stars
Prof. Lupin of UCSB recently launched a crowdfunding campaign to create “Voices of Humanity”, a project aimed at equipping all future missions to space with a digital archive of humanity!
China launches ‘hack-proof’ quantum satellite in world first
This is so exciting.
The transfer of data using quantum communications is considered impenetrable due to a particle phenomenon known as quantum entanglement, with eavesdroppers unable to monitor the transfer without altering the quantum state and thereby being detected. In theory, two parties can communicate in secret by sharing an encryption key encoded in a string of photons.
China’s big-spending quantum research initiative, part of Beijing’s broader multi-billion dollar strategy to overtake the West in science and space research, is being closely watched in global scientific research and security circles, with groups from Canada, Japan, Singapore and Europe also planning their own quantum space experiments.
Japan can now beam solar energy from space
If you think the idea of powering the whole world with solar power is still many years away, prepare to be amazed. The inspired minds at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has succeeded in transmitting solar energy right through the air. Using wireless power transmission may be the best way to gather solar energy from space in order to use it here on Earth.
