What the stages of sleep reveal about consciousness
Ordinary dreams are, perhaps, the clearest articulation of what it is like to be.

This article is of very poor quality — for example the statement “in REM we are conscious without question” is absolutely wrong. When we dream during our sleep, then we have a strong REM-activity and we are in a state which is very close to awakening but without consciousness. When we continue our sleeping, then we will forget the dreams. We can recall/remember only such dreams which were in the active memory-processing at the moment when we really awake. But one problem is — that our perception and thus our dreams are influenced by external stimuli (e.g. sounds) of the environment, when we awake. Therefore the contents of our dreams is a result of chance/accident — and will therefore reveal only poor information about our consciousness
