This genetically engineered microorganism has the ability to break down a type of plastic known as polyethylene terephthalate (PET).

Various bacterial species have demonstrated an extraordinary ability to degrade plastics, which are synthetic polymers known for their long-lasting and non-biodegradable characteristics.

Research in this area continues to advance to create viable and sustainable solutions to combat the growing menace of plastic waste in terrestrial and marine environments.

The US Space Force’s ‘Victus Nox’ mission launched aboard a Firefly Alpha rocket that lifted off from Vandenberg Space Force Base, California.

The US Space Force announced in a press statement today, September 15, that Firefly Aerospace successfully launched a Millennium Space satellite yesterday.

That mission launched on an incredibly short 24-hour timeline, showcasing the capability for rapid deployment of national security missions.

Revolutionary ‘Lab-on-a-drone’ system detects airborne pollutants in real time.

According to supercomputer guru, even despite sanctions, China has more supercomputers than the US.

A supercomputer is faster, more expensive, and much bigger than your humble personal computer. They are used by scientists and researchers in tech companies and labs to test theories and models with intensive databases.

Keeping a tab on which is the fastest supercomputer in the world is the Top500 List, which comes out twice every year – in November and June. It is the most coveted and sought-after ranking of the top supercomputers in the world. However, over the years, the rankings have been affected due to sociopolitical factors.

The METL tire is made from a shape memory alloy, making it elastic like rubber yet strong like titanium.

The much-hyped airless tire technology developed by NASA for its rovers, later commercialized for terrestrial use by The SMART Tire Company (STC), is now available for sale.

According to a Kickstarter campaign, the SMART METL tires designed for bikes have minimal rolling resistance (less labor for you), require no air pressure, ride smoothly like pneumatic tires, and last the lifetime of your vehicle. They also look exceptionally stylish as well.

The student-built Tokamak reactor will be 3 × 3 feet in size and be the first such facility built for nuclear fusion in a university.

Australia is set to become home to the world’s first nuclear fusion facility designed, built, and operated by students. The project is planned by the University of New South Wales (UNSW) but will not use nuclear fuel, a press release said.

Nuclear fusion is the process where atoms of lighter elements like hydrogen are heated up to hundreds of millions of degrees Celsius to enable their fusion under large amounts of force. The process releases large amounts of energy, which can then be used to power devices and machines.

The British Army has just showcased its next-generation, jet-propelled, heavy-lift Hydra 400 drone at this year’s DSEI conference in London.

The British Ministry of Defense (MoD) officially displayed its latest jet-propelled, heavy-lift drone at the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) conference at the ExCeL center in London this September (2023). Called the Hydra 400, the British Army stand also featured the drone’s Aether mothership. A pioneering new generation of heavy-lift drones using hybrid propulsion technology (rotors and jet engines), the Hydra 400 is compact and portable, can be transported on a regular pickup truck, and can be prepared for flight in six minutes. It… More.

The space observatory has observed a dynamic environment around a young protostar as it accumulates mass on its path to becoming a Sun-like celestial body.

Since its launch, the advanced James Webb Space Telescope.

One example is star-forming regions, often challenging to observe due to their location within densely populated clouds of gas and dust.

The US military and its contractors would be exempt.

Robots that are autonomous or semi-autonomous and carry weapons or offensive capabilities are often called armed robots. These robots can be employed in a variety of settings, including the military, law enforcement, industry, and security.

Today, many armed robots are controlled remotely by human operators who can keep a safe distance between themselves and the devices. This is particularly prevalent with military drones, as the operators control the aircraft and its weaponry from a distance, making the machines even more dangerous to civilians.

There are continuous efforts to establish rules and laws controlling the deployment of armed robots in order to reduce the risks involved. Now, one US state is trying to outlaw them altogether.

Human intervention right now holds the key.

How do we assess the health of our planet? In 2009, a group of 28 scientists wanted a definite answer to this question. So, they outlined nine planetary boundaries, which are critical for Earth’s stability.

A reassessment in 2023 says that six of these nine planetary boundaries have been transgressed, suggesting that Earth is “well outside of the safe operating space for humanity.”
