Grandfather becomes first person to have pioneering heart treatment

A British grandfather-of-nine has become the first person in the world to benefit from a pioneering triple-combo heart-failure treatment.

Robert Brind, 63, from Whitstable, Kent, had three new wireless implants fitted over the course of six months to help his heart beat properly again.

One prompts the heart to beat at a normal rate, another makes sure both sides beat in unison, while the third is on standby to shock the heart if it suddenly starts to fail.

Windows 10’s built-in Linux kernel will be available to everyone soon

You won’t have to be a tester to try Windows 10’s new, built-in Linux kernel in the near future. Microsoft has confirmed that Windows Subsystem for Linux 2 will be widely available when Windows 10 version 2004 arrives. You’ll have to install it manually for a “few months” until an update adds automatic installs and updates, but that’s a small price to pay if you want Linux and Windows to coexist in peace and harmony. It’ll be easier to set up, at least — the kernel will now be delivered through Windows Update instead of forcing you to install an entire Windows image.

How to legally download any version of Windows 10, Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Microsoft Office

If you want to download an ISO file of the latest version of Windows 10, the process is very straightforward — just use Microsoft’s Media Creation Tool to generate the image file for you.

But what if you want an older version of Windows 10, or one of the many Windows Insider builds? Or what if you want a copy of Windows 7 or 8.1, or a copy of Microsoft Office? We have the answer.

Student discovers 5,000-year-old sword hidden in Venetian monastery

A keen-eyed archaeology student made the find of a lifetime when she spotted one of the oldest swords on record, mistakenly grouped with medieval artifacts in a secluded Italian museum.

The ancient sword was thought to be medieval in origin and maybe a few hundred years old at most — but studies have shown that it dates back about 5,000 years, to what is now eastern Turkey, where swords are thought to have been invented, in the early Bronze Age.
