Bill Gates reveals the next big thing in tech, and it’s not metaverse

Posted by in category: robotics/AI

Did Mark bet his Zuckbucks on the wrong horse?

Artificial Intelligence or AI is the next big tech shift that users can expect in the coming years, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates recently said while interacting with a Reddit user last week. Gates thinks that metaverse and Web3 are revolutionary but not quite as much as AI.

Gates’ comments come at a time when Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg appears to have splurged his riches on chasing a pipe dream with the concept of a digital universe where everybody logs in to connect, work, and play is not catching any traction anymore.

This China-free lithium battery plant can power the next 100 years

Posted by in categories: energy, materials

Australia has all the key critical minerals to power the next 100 years.

An Australian-based startup, Recharge Industries Pty, is planning to build a A$300 million (US$210 million) factory that can build lithium-ion batteries that do not have materials imported from China, Bloomberg.

Though Australia is the world’s largest supplier of lithium, a vital battery metal, it currently sends most of its battery raw materials to be processed into components in China.

Korea’s smart lens technology could detect Alzheimer’s at early stages

Posted by in categories: biotech/medical, neuroscience

The lens is inserted into the eye of the patient to detect the biomarkers for Alzheimer’s disease.

The KIMM (Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials) has developed South Korea’s first smart lens technology to diagnose Alzheimer’s disease in its early stages. The KIMM research team has worked on this project in collaboration with Yonsei University.

Astronomers just detected the furthest atomic hydrogen signal ever

Posted by in category: space

It is the most distant atomic hydrogen radio signal “by a large margin” and it could teach us a great deal about star formation.

Astronomers from McGill University in Canada and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru detected an atomic hydrogen radio signal originating 8.8 billion light-years from Earth.

As the statement points out, “this is also the first confirmed detection of strong lensing of 21 cm emission from a galaxy.”

Russian hackers are using ChatGPT to write malicious pieces of code

Posted by in category: robotics/AI

This can help them steal your personal data and much more.

Hackers in Russia are not just keen on leveraging ChatGPT to write pieces of malicious code but have also succeeded in bypassing the geofencing meant to keep them away from the platform, Business Insider.

ChatGPT, the chatbot launched by OpenAI to demonstrate the advances made in artificial intelligence (AI) research, has become famous thanks to its conversational tone of interacting with the user. However, dig a little deeper, and the bot can help you write college essays, poems for a loved one, and even short stories to tingle your imagination.

Watch The Spectacular SpaceX Rocket Launch As Boosters Return To Earth In Tandem

Posted by in categories: alien life, military, satellites

The world’s second-most powerful rocket—though it’s largest partially renewable rocket—yesterday blasted-off on a secret mission for the US Space Force amid spectacular views. Only the fifth flight of the company’s heavy-life Falcon Heavy rocket (though the second inside a few months), the event took place in twilight Sunday, with a satellite being successfully sent into geosynchronous Earth orbit (meaning it will orbit at the same speed as Earth rotates). Two side-boosters then returned to land in tandem on launch pads.

They were the 163th and 164th successful landings of an orbital-class rocket, according to SpaceX.

The Center Of Our Galaxy May Be Way More Powerful Than We Thought, Say Scientists

Posted by in category: cosmology

There are few more beautiful sights than the orangey-red disk of our star, the Sun, sinking into the ocean. At sunset it seems a far cry from powerful, hot star we feel at midday and can’t even look at safely. If we were only able to view the Sun at sunset what would we think of it? It would be fair to conclude that it was far weaker than it actually is.

It could be a similar case for astronomers’ observations of the centers of galaxies, suggests a new study.

A new study indicates that scientists have substantially underestimated the energy output of supermassive black hole-powered active galactic nuclei.

Paris to hold vote on shared scooters

Posted by in category: climatology

This weekend, Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo told Le Parisien that Parisians will get to vote whether they want to ban free-floating electric scooters or not. As I explained last week, Dott, Lime and Tier, the three scooter companies currently operating in the city, have operating licenses that are set to expire on March 23rd, 2023. And the fate of those services could have wide implications across the micromobility sector.

“If Parisians want to own their own scooter, there’s no issue. But we have a real issue with free-floating scooters. It’s not climate-friendly. Employees working for these companies are not properly treated,” Mayor of Paris told Le Parisien.

“That’s why I’m going to ask a question to Parisians in a vote that is going to take place on Sunday, April 2nd so that I can understand what they want,” she added.
