Microsoft deploys AI in the classroom to improve public speaking and math

Posted by in categories: education, employment, mathematics, robotics/AI

Microsoft announced new AI-powered classroom tools today. The company sees its new “Learning Accelerators” as helping students sharpen their speaking and math skills — while making teachers’ jobs a little easier — as children prepare for an even more technologically enhanced world.

Speaker Progress is a new AI classroom tool for teachers. Microsoft says it saves them time by “streamlining the process of creating, reviewing, and analyzing speaking and presentation assignments for students, groups, and classrooms.” It can provide tidy summaries of presentation-based skills while highlighting areas to improve. Additionally, it lets teachers review student recordings, identify their needs and track progress.

It will be a companion for Speaker Coach, an existing feature Microsoft launched in 2021 that provides one-on-one speaking guidance and feedback. For example, it uses AI to give real-time pointers on pacing, pitch and filler words. “Speaker Coach is one of those tools that kind of was a lightbulb tool for a lot of students that I’ve worked with,” said an unnamed teacher in a Microsoft launch video. “Being able to practice and get real-time feedback is where Speaker Coach really comes in and helps our students, and it even helps us as adults.”

Microsoft has unveiled an advanced version of its search engine Bing — complete with ChatGPT-like technology that can answer complex questions and help users make decisions.

“We are basically taking the next generation of the model — that today powers ChatGPT — and building it in right into Bing,” Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella told “CBS Mornings” co-host Tony Dokoupil before Tuesday’s announcement.

Microsoft has been pouring billions into artificial intelligence. Last month, the company announced it is making a “multiyear, multibillion-dollar investment” in OpenAI, the AI research company behind ChatGPT — positioning Microsoft to sharpen its competition with Google in commercializing new AI breakthroughs.

How ChatGPT, Bard And AI Rivals Are Shaping Layoffs And Hiring

Posted by in categories: economics, employment, robotics/AI

In every downturn, we tend to measure the pain by counting layoffs. (Dell is the latest, announcing it will cut 6,650 jobs or 5% of its workforce.) According to Layoffs.fyi, a smart if incomplete tracker of job cuts, tech companies laid off almost 95,000 workers in the first five weeks of this year, which is already about 60% of the layoffs it reported for all of 2022.

While job cuts are normal, there’s something different about this economic dip. To start, as Jena McGregor reports, the advent of remote work has cemented the digital pink slip.

The Microsoft cofounder talked to Forbes about his work with AI unicorn OpenAI and back on Microsoft’s campus, AI’s potential impact on jobs and in medicine, and much more.

In 2020, Bill Gates left the board of directors of Microsoft, the tech giant he cofounded in 1975. But he still spends about 10% of his time at its Redmond, Washington headquarters, meeting with product teams, he says. 7 ways to use ChatGPT at work to boost your productivity, make your job easier, and save a ton of time

Posted by in categories: cybercrime/malcode, economics, employment, internet, robotics/AI

Basically I underestimated chat gpt it is Basically much more powerful than I realized not just a Jetson society but it could even bring realities like we have seen in star trek the next generation where one can ask an AI anything and it can do anything given a task. This could also bring upon a superintelligence once programmed much like a wolfram alpha is for homework but for everything. It can nearly do any job and can replace all tech jobs eventually to get to universal basic income or even bring an end to the wild west of the internet it could create a near perfect cyber defense because it could simply know everything and make everything bug free. In short it can a near God like AI to answer and do any digital task. This can make nearly all jobs eventually automated:3.

It’ll be a while before ChatGPT takes your job entirely, and in the meantime you can use it to make work life easier.
