Yes, Sagan did predict just that. The screenshot you may have seen floating around social media is real. And plenty of people are worried that Carl was talking about our era.

    Once work was manual&16 HRs/day…industrial rev happened and workhrs reduced…that is happening again…thus each country must manage its population sustainability …corps. Pay tax…essentials housing food water energy mustbe cheap and ppl unable to work bcs can’t reeducate or get advanced expertise needed for available jobs must be few and or redirected into AI assisted work tasks to guide them…Problem:Obama&clntns failed to see this and gradually prepare USA for the change…they led by P&L management I.e., keep bringing in ppl with little or no expertise or ability to boost the income tax paying base…when number of workers needed is lessening…Trump mitigates this bad leadership with Mfg jobs but needs to Kickstart reeducate for advanced STEM jobs available…
