Sigridur Hrund Petursdottir, MBA, MSc

Sigridur Hrund Petursdottir, MBA, MSc is a Consultant, Investor, and Entrepreneur with over 15 years of experience in angel investing, business development, and women’s empowerment in Iceland. She is a self-employed Investment Portfolio Manager and recently operated a small importing company, Vinnupallar ehf, in Iceland, selectively serving the construction and manufacturing industries with a diverse range of security materials.

As an active Angel Investor since 2010, Sigridur actively invests both directly and indirectly, especially with young inventors, female if possible. Her investment portfolio, which she has managed since January 2016, focuses on Angel Investments, women-owned projects, Small Growth Projects, Real Estate Projects, and traditional Index Funds. She has built a reputation for helping others, particularly women, grow their projects and businesses while actively engaging in the dynamics of economic growth. Sigridur has been instrumental in addressing Iceland’s gender wage gap through her leadership role at FKA – Félag kvenna í atvinnulífinu (Association of Women Business Leaders in Iceland).

From May 2021 to May 2023, Sigridur served as Chairman of FKA, an association that gathers over 1,300 women from all over Iceland with the purpose of networking, enhancing the diversity and visibility of women business leaders. During her tenure, she led this 24-year-old organization after being elected at the annual meeting on May 19, 2021. Under her leadership, FKA continued its mission of promoting solidarity with women as fundamental for sustainability. Through FKA’s equality scale project, she worked to help mothers return to work or school after having children by advocating for subsidized daycare and equal parental leave policies.

Between January 2017 and January 2023, Sigridur founded and served as Owner and CEO of Vinnupallar ehf, an importer of security-related products aimed at improving security in the construction business, offering scaffolding services and occupational safety and health equipment. Security in the construction business was the core value and passion of the company, with a focus on educating both professionals and the public about safety practices.

From January 2007 to December 2019, Sigridur worked as a Strategist and Consultant at Viðskiptavit ehf, providing services in comprehensive project management and construction project management. The portfolio included large-scale construction projects, tender projects, and apartment building projects for customers of diverse sizes from various industries. Her 13 years of consulting experience gave her deep insights into Iceland’s business landscape and strategic planning capabilities.

Between 2008 and 2011, she held the position of Quality Management, Cost Control, and Internal Auditing specialist at Norðurál, one of the largest aluminum plants in Europe, with an annual production of 317,000 tons and approximately 600 employees. At this Century Aluminum Company subsidiary, she contributed to the development of quality control systems that helped achieve ISO 9001 certification and worked on internal audit processes during a period of significant expansion for the facility.

In January 2024, on her 50th birthday, Sigridur declared her candidacy for President of Iceland, becoming the first woman to announce her candidacy for the 2024 presidential election. She withdrew her candidacy on April 26, 2024, after failing to secure the required 1,500 voter signatures needed for ballot access. Sigridur earned her MBA in Business Administration from Reykjavik University in 2013. She earned her Master of Science in International Finance from Copenhagen Business School in 2006 and her Master of Science in Strategy and Business Administration from Háskóli Íslands (University of Iceland) in 2006. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in French Language and Literature from Háskóli Íslands in 1999 and completed her college degree in Natural Sciences from Menntaskólinn í Reykjavík in 1993.

Sigridur has received recognition for her business leadership and has been featured as a speaker at various conferences, including the BPW Iceland 2022 European Conference in Reykjavík in May 2022. She has been profiled in numerous Icelandic media outlets, including appearances on Ísland í dag and the podcast Einmitt, where she has discussed topics ranging from business leadership to personal challenges, including postpartum depression.

Throughout her career, Sigridur has maintained a strong commitment to women’s empowerment and economic equality. Her investment philosophy prioritizes supporting female entrepreneurs and young inventors, contributing to Iceland’s reputation as a global leader in gender equality. She has been vocal about the importance of creating opportunities for women in business and has worked to increase the visibility of women business leaders throughout Iceland.

Sigridur is married with four children, with a marriage spanning 24 years. She resides in Kópavogur in the Capital Region of Iceland, where she continues her investment activities and consulting work. She describes herself as “a regular woman from Kársnes with four children and a wonderful husband,” emphasizing her connection to everyday Icelandic life while pursuing her professional ambitions.
