Dr. Salman Khatani

Salman Khatani, Ph.D. is a Senior Futurist, Assistant Professor, and Faculty Member at Iqra University. He is recognized for his expertise in Business Management and Administrative Sciences, focusing on Youth Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Sustainability, Futures Studies, and Foresight.

With over 15 years of professional experience, including 11 years dedicated to teaching and research, Salman has significantly contributed to understanding the connections between Youth Entrepreneurship, Foresight, Innovation, and sustainable socio-economic development.

His diverse career as a Senior Futurist, academic, educationist, researcher, poet, and business professional enables him to observe issues from various perspectives and analyze the problems in greater depth.

As a Futurist, Deputy Director, and Associate Professor at Iqra University, Karachi, Pakistan, Salman leads initiatives to explore potential future scenarios and inform decision-making processes. His research focus areas are Futures Studies, Management sciences, and entrepreneurship.

Salman has been a faculty member at Iqra University since 2016, when he was a Senior Lecturer. In 2013, he became an Assistant Professor, and in January 2025, an Associate Professor. His proficiency in analyzing complex issues provides students with a comprehensive view of the innovation landscape.

In January 2025, Salman mentored a talented teacher team from Aga Khan School, which won first place in Pakistan in the OPEN English Language Program Challenge Pakistan. Salman also received recognition from Scott Urbom, U.S. Consul General in Karachi.

Salman previously shared his experience at the Institute of Futures Studies (IMAGINE), Pakistan’s first Institute of Futures Studies. As a founding member, he joined the Institute in 2019 as a Futurist Senior Associate, continued as Futurist Manager in 2022, and finally, as Deputy Director before moving on in 2023.

He played a pivotal role in introducing Futures Studies and advancing foresight practices in the region. At the Institute, Salman dedicated himself to research and training, aiming to foster collaboration and enrich their capacity to shape a sustainable, equitable, and humane future. They actively engage with think tanks, universities, businesses, and communities at local, national, and global levels to co-create roadmaps towards our desired future.

Salman was also a Visiting Professor at Karachi University between 2013 and 2022 and a Visiting Researcher at George Mason University, USA, where he actively engaged in a three-year research program with a specific focus on statistical methods in the social sciences. Additionally, he pursued a certificate training opportunity at George Mason University located in Fairfax, Virginia, USA.

In 2014, he conducted comprehensive training programs at the National Bank of Pakistan for branch managers throughout Pakistan, equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their roles.

The Dubai Future Foundation’s recognition of Salman as one of the world’s leading futurists in 2022 and 2023 highlights his forward-thinking approach. His skills in research methodologies and future studies position him as a key figure in shaping strategies for a sustainable and innovative future.

As a member of the Steering Committee at Next Generation Foresight Practitioners, Salman collaborates on international initiatives in sustainable development, youth entrepreneurship, and ethical AI. His commitment to empowering communities aligns with NGFP’s mission to support and empower the next generation of changemakers, using futures and foresight as tools to reimagine and co-create more equitable and inclusive futures globally.

Salman earned his Ph.D. in Management and Administrative Sciences from the University of Karachi in 2023. He earned his M.Phil in Public Administration in 2018 and his Master of Public Administration (MPA) in Finance in 2012, both from the University of Karachi.
