Oleg Ponfilenok, MSc

Oleg Ponfilenok, MSc is an independent researcher, engineer, and entrepreneur, the founder and “technoprophet” of Entropianism, and the founder and longtime CEO of the Moscow drone company Copter Express (COEX). A physicist by training, he describes himself as an “Entropian, vibe physicist, engineer, entrepreneur, and VC”, and his work spans autonomous aerial robotics, drone education, and a thermodynamic philosophy of life and the future.

Entropianism, which Oleg founded on September 19, 2024, is a self-described scientific technoreligion grounded in thermodynamics and determinism. It rejects God, the soul, mysticism, and free will, and it holds that accelerating entropy production is the central purpose of all living systems.

Its key metric is the rate of entropy production, S′ = ΔQ/(T·Δt), measured in watts per kelvin, and its organizing body is the Church of Accelerating Entropy Production. The doctrine draws on the Maximum Entropy Production Principle, the idea that nonequilibrium systems tend toward the regime that dissipates energy fastest, and Oleg has credited the work of physicist Leonid Martyushev with strengthening his confidence in it. The movement’s main scripture is The Textbook of Entropianism, written by Oleg and published in English and Russian, with a December 2025 edition. Its chapters run from methodology, philosophy, and “infophysics” to evolution and astrobiology, black holes and cosmology, and an “Earth-Park” proposal under which heavy industry moves to space and Earth becomes a nature reserve.

The Entropianism program sets out Ten Commandments (produce, improve, expand, multiply, unite, dream, be healthy, be honest, be kind, be responsible), a target of raising global energy-consumption growth from 2% to 3% within 30 years, and a long-range “Calendar of the Future” built around Kardashev-scale megastructures, beginning with a Type 1 megastructure it calls the Ponfilenok Belt.

The project is open source under a Creative Commons license on GitHub, and its curated Scientific Articles reading list collects work on entropy, information, and the physics of life. Read Entropianism: How an Entrepreneur Created a Religion to Accelerate the Production of Chaos.

As an independent researcher, Oleg authored the 2024 preprint Quantization of Entropic Gravity, which builds on entropic gravity and the holographic principle to propose a quantum of gravitational force and an uncertainty principle for mass, and suggests a test using highly sensitive torsion balances.

Oleg founded Copter Express in 2013 and served as its CEO from 2013 to 2022. Starting from a rented three-room apartment in Moscow and funding the company for its first three years from his earlier business, he grew it to more than 20 staff, moving into industrial space and later the Technopolis Moscow technology park. On June 21, 2014, Copter Express drones flew Dodo Pizza’s first drone deliveries in Syktyvkar, Russia, carrying six real customer orders and drawing coverage in 24 countries. The company went on to develop autonomous delivery drones with automatic docking and charging stations, and a search-and-rescue drone concept with thermal imaging and machine vision that took second place at the 2017 Global Mobile Challenge, held with Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

A resident of the Skolkovo Foundation since 2016, Copter Express joined the Dronecode Foundation, a Linux Foundation project that hosts the PX4 autopilot, as a Silver member in 2019. In 2015, Copter Express created the first version of Clover, a programmable educational quadcopter kit built on PX4, a Raspberry Pi onboard computer, and computer-vision navigation. Its open-source software framework on GitHub has been used at the WorldSkills Drone Operation competition, the National Technology Initiative Olympiad, and the Russian Robot Olympiad.

In 2016, Oleg founded the Drone Operation skill within WorldSkills, and in 2019 he served as International Chief Expert of the Drone Operating skill competition at WorldSkills Kazan. Watch Oleg Ponfilenok, Kopter Express: Autonomous Drones Are a Global Trend.

Oleg has also worked to shape the regulation of civilian drones in Russia. He helped found the Association of Small Unmanned Aircraft, served as its president, and worked with the Agency for Strategic Initiatives and a National Technology Initiative working group on proposed amendments to aviation rules. Oleg studied Physics and Applied Mathematics at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) from 2004 to 2010, earning his Master’s Degree of Science in Applied Physics. He also interned at Fermilab, the U.S. particle physics laboratory.

Between 2008 and 2010, he ran his first startup, myRange group, a mobile dating service, and he later led businesses providing webinars, webcasts, and event streaming. In 2017, Kontur named him one of ten entrepreneurs who built businesses before the age of 30. Read New Generation: 10 Entrepreneurs Who Founded Businesses Before Age 30.

Oleg lives in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, where he has been based with his wife and three children since 2020 and manages a restaurant that offers drone food delivery. He enjoys kitesurfing.
