He earned his B.A. in Asian Studies at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in 1995. He earned his certificate in Advanced Japanese, Japanese Language and Literature at Cornell University in 1996. He completed the CIA-sponsored workshop, Counterproliferation Analysis — Open Source Research at the Central Intelligence Agency in 2011. He completed his certificate in Nuclear Security at the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics — Trieste, Italy in 2012. He earned his Master’s Degree (M.A.) in Nonproliferation and Terrorism Studies at Monterey Institute of International Studies in 2014.
