Dr. Jason R. Williams

Jason R. Williams, MD, DABR is the Director of Interventional Oncology and Immunotherapy at the Williams Cancer Institute and Adjunct Associate Professor at Case Western Reserve University. He is a board-certified radiologist, image-guided oncologist, researcher, and best selling author. He is a radiologist with advanced knowledge of gene and cellular therapies that can be administered under image guidance.

Jason is one of the pioneers of immunotherapy, specializing in intra-tumoral interventions. He performed the world’s first ablation procedure and implemented an intra-tumoral injection of a specific combination of immunotherapy agents, thus leveraging the actual process of ablation as an immunotherapy agent itself. Since then, he has performed thousands of procedures —many of them “first in human”— in multiple areas of ablation and cryoablation therapies. These achievements include:

  • Breast ablation (2003)
  • Combination ablation intratumoral IL2, Interferon (2005)
  • First in human, intratumoral 3-Bromopyruvate (2005)
  • First in human, combination intratumoral Yervoy/Opdivo with tumor ablation (2014)
  • First in human, intratumoral combination Yervoy/Opdivo/CpG/PV-10 (2015)
  • First in human, intra-arterial infusion into liver tumors, a combination Yervoy/Opdivo (2015)
  • First in human, intratumoral OX40/CpG agonist (2018)

His research is focused on:

  • Image-guided tumor ablation combined with intratumoral and systemic administration of Nivolumab and Ipilimumab Immune checkpoint inhibitors for the creation of a personalized anti-cancer vaccine
  • Intratumoral injection of Edmiston Measles vaccine combined with Nivolumab and Ipilimumab in CD46 positive cancers
  • Intra-tumoral injection of Saponin/Matrix M vaccine adjuvant combined with image-guided tumor ablation for the creation of a systemic anti-cancer immune response and personalized tumor vaccine.

Since 2015, Jason’s mission at the Williams Cancer Institute is to advance the development of intratumoral immunotherapy to cure cancer effectively. He is the Author of the book The Immunotherapy Revolution where he shares his new, less invasive and less toxic solution to treating cancer

As the Adjunct Professor at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, he has been helping to further cutting-edge research. In addition, he is actively involved in private research combining numerous different immunotherapy agents for image-guided intratumoral injection covering almost all cancer types

Jason is the 2019 Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation “Leaders for a Cure” awardee. He earned Patients Choice Awards between 2009 and 2013, Telly and Communicator Award in Explaining Radiofrequency Ablation in 2006, the American Chemical Society Organic Chemistry Award in 1995, and the CRC Press Freshman Chemistry Award.

As well, Jason has been the Scientific Officer at Cancer Immune Biologics, Mexico City and Atlanta since 2014, Staff Radiologist at DioMed Hospital, Mexico City since 2015, and the Chief Medical Officer at Bioviva in Seattle since 2015

Previously, he was the Director and Founder at Precision Imaging (2009–2014), the Medical Director of Radiology at Northwest Regional Medical Center (2007–2010), and Bolivar Medical Center in Cleveland (2008–2010), a Visiting Professor at Mediclinic Kloof Hospital in South Africa (2005), and the CEO, Director of R&D, and Founder at Neuralgene.

Jason earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Louisiana State University in 2000. He completed an internship in Internal Medicine followed by a residency in Radiology at The University of South Alabama until 2007. In residency, he was selected for the RSNA Research Fellow award

As well, Jason earned expertise in Interventional Oncology for Non-Vascular Intervention in 2004 from the University of Mississippi Medical Center

He is board certified by The American Board of Radiology with additional training in image-guided cancer and spine procedures, is licensed to practice medicine in the states of Ohio, Florida, Georgia, and Alabama, and carries the Nuclear Medicine License. Jason is also MQSA Certified in mammography, digital mammography, breast MRI, breast biopsy, breast ultrasound, and 3D breast tomosynthesis.

As a pioneer in his novel cancer treatment, he holds numerous patents. Among others are Laser/RF Ablation Needle, Bone Radiofrequency Ablation Needle, Tumor Ablation in combination with pharmaceutical compositions, and Factor H AAV9 Gene Therapy for ALS.
