Francesc R. Subirada, BSc., MBA
has been Associate Director of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center –
Centro
Nacional de Supercomputación since its creation in 2005.
BSC, the Spanish
Supercomputing Facility, is a public consortium supported by the Spanish
Government. BSC’s mission is to investigate, develop, and apply
technology
for the advancement of science. BSC supports public and private entities
to increase their scientific capabilities and their competitive
advantage.
From 2000 to 2004, Francesc was Associate Director of the joint IBM-UPC
Research Institute at the Technical University of Catalonia. He was also
Director of the IBM Center for Advanced Studies (CAS) in Barcelona,
Spain.
From 1989 to 1999, as an IBM employee, he was responsible for different
technical and
business strategy positions, including Business Intelligence, University
Relations, and Research and Development. He was also member of several
IBM
technical advisory boards.
From 1986 to 1989, Francesc was faculty member at EPSA High School in
Barcelona and
research staff member at IQS (Institut Químic de Sarrià
Spanish
University).
He holds an Engineering degree in Chemistry from the Institut
Químic de
Sarrià (IQS, Spain) and a Master’s degree in Business
Administration (MBA)
from the Open University Business School (OUBS/U.K.).
His main professional interests are Research Strategy & Management, Deep
Computing, and Emerging Technologies. Throughout his professional
career,
Francesc has continuously collaborated with Research & Development
centers and managed university-industry collaborations.
