Sonika Kapil, MBA is the AI & App Chief Architect at Microsoft, with over 20 years of experience in technology leadership, strategic planning, and artificial intelligence implementation. Based in Copenhagen, Denmark, she is a significant figure in the artificial intelligence industry.
Her expertise spans strategic planning, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), applied machine learning, conversational AI, data security, analytics, and responsible AI practices. Sonika’s work, particularly in the context of Microsoft’s strategic partnership with OpenAI, has been key to deploying cutting-edge AI solutions that set new technological standards and capabilities. Sonika is a significant figure in the artificial intelligence industry, and her experience at Microsoft is related to innovations that are changing the digital world.
Since July 2023, Sonika has served as the AI & App Chief Architect at Microsoft in Denmark, where she leads strategic initiatives in artificial intelligence, machine learning, generative AI, application security, data analytics, Python programming, Microsoft Azure, and strategy development. Her expertise encompasses cloud-native architecture, natural language processing, data analysis, thought leadership, and cross-functional team leadership.
In her current role, she recently presented at Azure Innovate Day, speaking to over 150 attendees on powerful Azure AI innovations, from smart model selection to advanced implementation strategies. In 2025, Sonika also participated in the Microsoft Security Summit 2025 in Denmark, representing Microsoft’s commitment to secure AI implementation in enterprise environments.
She regularly engages with the tech community, including presenting at the AI Meetup Copenhagen at SimCorp, where she demonstrated Microsoft’s AI capabilities and discussed emerging technologies. In October 2024, Sonika visited Sofia at the invitation of the Webit Foundation to participate in the seventeenth edition of the Webit 2024 Forum. There, she shared insights on the latest global trends and innovations in AI, ChatGPT, and generative AI.

Before her current position, Sonika served as Cloud Solution Architect Manager at Microsoft from 2020 to 2023, where she led team leadership initiatives, analytical skills development, data security implementations, and artificial intelligence technology.
Between 2019 and 2020, Sonika was Partner Technology Strategist at Microsoft in Copenhagen, where she closed a multi-million USD deal in the Denmark public sector in December 2019 and built joint business partner plans for 14 strategic partners, driving a revenue increase of over 50 million DKK. During this time, she created a pipeline of 43 new opportunities, of which 21 were Co-Sell Ready by H1 2020, and managed partner solutions throughout the entire lifecycle, from recruitment to growth and publication on the Microsoft App source.
Sonika has made significant contributions to the field of AI through her technical writing and thought leadership. In January 2024, she published Harnessing AI to Transform PowerPoint Presentations: A Technical Dive into Immersive AI Avatars, detailing the process of creating AI-powered presentations using Microsoft’s Custom Neural Voice service. She has also written about Creating an Application to Generate Creative Business Ideas using Flask and OpenAI, demonstrating practical applications of generative AI in business contexts.
From September 2020 to July 2023, she served as Co-owner of S&P Global Aps in Copenhagen while maintaining her leadership and presentation responsibilities.
Her earlier career includes serving as Head of IT-Build at ISS A/S from 2016 to 2018, where she managed the entire application landscape of over 25 systems for more than 7,000 users. She built the ‘IT strategy’ / ‘Vision 2020’ with the ISS CIO.
Between 2016 and 2019, she led key projects, including automating GDPR data collection and management from over 7,000 employees. Between June 2014 and December 2015, Sonika was IT Architect at ISS, where she led SAP upgrades for ECC, SRM, and Portal systems, designed new systems for Wage Regulation, and set up infrastructure management via Solution Manager.
Prior to ISS, Sonika also served as Global Delivery Manager, Senior Project Manager, and Enterprise Architect at Tech Mahindra from December 2007 to May 2014.
In her earlier career, Sonika worked as Senior Consultant at SAP Labs between 2005 and 2007, working across different countries, including India, Germany, and Italy, for SAP consulting projects. She began her technology career as Software Engineer at Infosys from September 2004 to October 2005, working as a developer for Banking and Capital Market clients, including Goldman Sachs.
Sonika earned her Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance, Strategy, and Entrepreneurship at London Business School between 2017 and 2019.
Sonika has been recognized with several awards and achievements throughout her career. In 2020, she received the Champion Award Letter and was recognized as Champion 2020Q2 on LinkedIn. Her ability to speak at major international conferences, including her recent presentation at Innovate with Azure: The AI-Driven Developer Experience in Lyngby, demonstrates her thought leadership in the AI space.
Sonika resides in Copenhagen, Denmark, where she continues to shape the future of AI at Microsoft while maintaining strong connections with the global tech community.
