Mahsa Kiani, M.S.

Mahsa Kiani, M.S. is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of New Brunswick for Computer Science and Cofounder of MyData.

Mahsa is a full-stack data scientist with over a decade of experience as a programmer, researcher, and instructor. She is passionate about solving real-world problems using technology, in particular data science, artificial intelligence, and big data. She provides advice to entrepreneurs on turning AI and data science into concrete value.

For her Ph.D. thesis, she is looking at the Similarity of Attributed Generalized Tree Structures. Mahsa cofounded MyData, which is both an alternative vision and set of guiding technical principles for how people, as individuals, can have more control over the data trails they leave behind in everyday actions. The core idea is that people should have an easy way to see where data about them goes, specify who can use it, and alter these decisions over time.

Mahsa is currently Mentor at Coursera, Research Contributor at AI.ON, Data Scientist at Data for Good, and Researcher at Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics. She is also an Executive Member of IEEE Global Initiative for Ethical Considerations in Artificial Intelligence.

Mahsa is the author of over a dozen scientific publications and has been recognized in hEr VOLUTION’s 150 Days of Canadian Women in STEM Initiative.

Mahsa earned a Master’s in Computer Engineering, focusing on Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, from the Islamic Azad University. There, she also earned a Bachelor’s in Computer Software Engineering. She earned a MicroMasters in Digital Leadership and Digital Product Management from Boston University, and a Diploma for University Teaching.
