Professor Janna Quitney Anderson
Janna Quitney Anderson, M.A. is
Associate Professor and Director of the
Imagining the Internet Center at
Elon University. She is also Lead author of the Pew Internet & American
Life Project “Future of the Internet” surveys.
Her 6,500-plus-page
Imagining the Internet resource offers thousands of
expert predictions
about the future of information/communications, and a section that
allows anyone anywhere to add predictions to the site. It also offers
survey data, videos, audio files, extensive sections on the future of
the world and the past history of communications, a KidZone, and a
Teachers’ Tips section. The site has won
international acclaim, including coverage in the New York Times and
other national and international news outlets.
This is one of her several major research pieces for the Pew Internet &
American Life Project; she is the lead author of the Future of the
Internet survey series for Pew Internet, and she also directed a
2001
study of the use of the Internet by small-town families.
These studies add to the documentation of
the history and predicted future of networked information and
communications technologies and help inform the policymakers who are
leading us into the future.
