James Norris
James Norris is the Founder and Executive Director of the Center for Existential Safety, Founder and CEO of Upgradable, and Founder and CEO of Survival Sanctuaries, with over 20 years of experience in social entrepreneurship, behavior change, and systems innovation.
All his life, James has been searching for the best ways to change himself and change the world. He started as an entrepreneur at age 6 and since has cofounded or helped build 27 organizations, including the international conference for the effective altruism movement, the first global lifehacking event series, Southeast Asia’s first social innovation hackathon series, and a university for today’s Leonardo da Vincis.
Collectively these organizations have operated for 200+ years and generated millions in revenue. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin as a triple major/quadruple minor and is a lifelong autodidact. In honor of his mother’s untimely passing when he was 16, he took a vow to do as much good as possible and pledged 90%+ of his lifetime assets to that end.
