Elaine Walker, M.A.
Elaine Walker, M.A. is an electronic musician and author with interests in visual math, physics, neuroscience, superlongevity, transhumanism, cryonics, and the future of humanity on Earth and beyond.
She is a recognized microtonal music composer. She has had a long and varied career in electronic music, both in academia and freelance, and musical instrument invention. Her master's thesis at New York University, Chaos Melody Theory, explored chaos dynamics as an organic tool to generate and “conduct” music.
Since 2012, Elaine has been Owner of Vertical Keyboards, an instrument line she designed to take keyboard playing into the future. Vertical Keyboards let the audience see what the performer is playing and offer a longer keyboard than a keytar, up to the full 88-note length of a grand piano. She first performed on the original prototype, arranged for the Bohlen-Pierce Scale, at the Bohlen-Pierce Scale Symposium at Berklee College of Music in Boston in 2010. Her new mini-movie album MACROCHIP, written in the Bohlen-Pierce Scale, was reviewed by V13 and Run The Trap and was the subject of an interview in Rival Magazine.
She is the author of a non-fiction physics/philosophy book, Matter Over Mind: Cosmos, Chaos, and Curiosity (2016). It illuminates the deeper dynamics of the world and a better way forward for humanity.
At the age of 50, and with no formal math training, Elaine realized she had a gift for visualizing mathematics, and her first research paper was published in the Proceedings of the American Mathematical Society with her partner Bruce Olberding. Together, they discovered a new class of geometric objects, which they named bisector fields — unifying seemingly unrelated geometric phenomena and finding surprising connections with physics.
Elaine has volunteered for the NewSpace community for many years — most recently spending five summers in the High Arctic on the NASA Haughton-Mars Project. In the 1990s–2000s, she was president of the Boston and NYC National Space Society chapters, serving on their board as well as the Space Frontier Foundation board, and as an NSS regional director. She sang and performed at many space and robotics conferences.
She was a music editor for the Pokemon cartoon for several years, then taught Electronic Music for a decade at a few colleges in AZ and NV, and also served as Director of the DJ and Electronic Music Programs at SCC in Scottsdale.
Her Matter Over Mind book was published in 2016, the same year she dropped everything and began caring for her parents who both had Parkinsonism. This led to her interest in stem cell therapy and her new superlongevity lifestyle. She has been a proponent of superlongevity and a cryopreservation member of Alcor since 2007. She continues to do math, music, and writing.
Specialties: Elaine's music is available for use in any projects for this community at no charge, with proper credits. She is open to interviews and documentaries, writing blogs or articles, panels, talks, and music performances.
