MacArthur $100 million grant

Summary

The MacArthur Foundation, the one that awards genius grants, has a new initiative. Every three years they intend to award a $100,000,000 grant to either a not-for-profit or a profit-making organization to fund a single proposal that promises “real and measurable progress in solving a critical problem of our time”, and that promises “a feasible, meaningful, and long-lasting solution.”

We invite members to propose projects to be implemented through Lifeboat. We also invite members to apply for project committees.

We will need to scramble to assemble teams by two deadlines. Registrations with MacArthur are due September 2 by 11 am Central time. Applications are due October 3 by 11 am Central time. DO NOT REGISTER A LIFEBOAT PROPOSAL WITH MACARTHUR UNTIL MEETING OUR CRITERIA AND RECEIVING AN OFFICIAL OKAY.

Procedure to submit a proposal through Lifeboat

Think about what the human species needs. Think about how it can be delivered. Learn what MacArthur wants. Assemble a team. Propose to Lifeboat and get Lifeboat approval. Given Lifeboat approval, register with MacArthur.

You can also simply get involved with our discussions on Yahoo Groups. If you are not a member of our group, you can request to join.

How to volunteer to help with a proposal

Send email with a subject of “MacArthur Volunteer” to [email protected].

Include your name, the project in which you are interested, what you think you can offer, and your relevant background. This will be made available to the project chair. You can apply for more than one project.
