DARPA and NASA Request for Information
Update: We are now working on the new DARPA and NASA Request for
Proposal. If you are
interested in helping, send
an email to
[email protected].
Lifeboat Foundation Advisory Board member,
DARPA and NASA are exploring the feasibility of a privately-funded trip
to the stars. They are asking for ideas of how to do it. Lifeboat
Foundation Advisory Board members may be able to help.
DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) and NASA have issued a
Request for Information asking for conceptualization of a more-or-less
privately funded trip to the stars. They want five pages on business
model, survival, governance, etc. A copy of this RFI is
available. Many organizations will respond to
this RFI.
The Lifeboat Foundation is inviting Advisory Board members to
help draft a Lifeboat contribution.
We will collect suggestions, have meetings by email, set up a wiki so
multiple members can edit, then have the final product polished if
necessary by a small editorial committee. (Or other group structure
favored by participants. If there are only two or three volunteers they
could do it all by email and forgo the wiki and the committee.) This
will be a rush project. It is due in two weeks: noon Eastern Time,
Friday, June 3, 2011. Group edits will probably be closed 6/1 to allow
for polishing and copy edit.
Contributions become the property of the Lifeboat Foundation, so we can
publish it. Lifeboat may edit the final product. Contributors will be
listed as authors if they choose. Those who want to contribute to
submissions to this RFI by other organizations instead of or in addition
to our version are welcome to do so.
