Professor Scott Madry

Scott Madry, Ph.D. is Professor at UNC-Chapel Hill, Professor Emeritus at the International Space University, Strasbourg, and Founder and President at Informatics International.

Since 1995, Informatics International has been an international consulting company dedicated to providing training, services, and project management in the integrated technologies of Geoinformatics consisting of Remote Sensing, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning Systems (GPS), telecommunications, and telemetry located in Chapel Hill, NC.

He holds appointments as Research Associate Professor of the Research Laboratories of Archaeology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is Professor of Satellite Applications at the International Space University in Strasbourg, France.

He has been involved with the International Space University since 1986 and has taught in 19 summer programs around the world. Between 1997 and 2000, he was a Member of the Resident Faculty and was elected for two consecutive three-year terms to the Academic Council from 1994 to 1999. Scott was, as well, Faculty at the College of Teachers and Co-Chair at the Department of Satellite Applications. He is a specialist in remote sensing and GIS for regional environmental and cultural applications, including disaster planning and response.

Scott is Author of Space Systems for Disaster Warning, Response, and Recovery, Global Navigation Satellite Systems and Their Applications, and Disruptive Space Technologies and Innovations: The Next Chapter.

Since 1999, Scott has been a volunteer, Advanced Disaster Instructor, and Government Operations Supervisor at American Red Cross in North Carolina.

Between 2007 and 2009, Scott was Geospatial Data Scientist at The Renaissance Computing Institute of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Previously from 1998 to 2007, he was Research Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and between 2000 and 2006 he was the Senior GIS Consultant for Environmental Resources in Jacksonville, Florida and Raleigh, North Carolina, USA.

As well, between 1995 and 1997 Scott was Senior Associate Director and between 1989 and 1995, he was Associate Director both at the Center for Remote Sensing and Spatial Analysis at the Department of Natural Resources. He is Full Member of the Graduate Faculty, Departments of Anthropology and Geography at Rutgers University.

Scott has been a visiting professor and lecturer at many Space Programs, including Bulgarian Space Challenges and the South African Space Lab.

He was awarded a Fulbright Specialist grant to South Africa to share his technical expertise and passion for mapping and analysis with graduate students and faculty at the University of Cape Town’s (UCT) SpaceLab, which promotes interdisciplinary education and research in space science and technology.

Scott earned his Ph.D., Master’s Degree of Arts, and Bachelor’s Degree of Arts in Anthropology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
