Chris Salvino, MD, MSc is CEO at Lunar Helium-3 Mining and SharpMed. He is an exceptionally multifaceted professional whose multidisciplinary expertise bridges the realms of medicine, aerospace, and engineering, with a specialized focus on space exploration. His extensive educational background includes multiple advanced degrees from prestigious institutions such as Loyola Medical School, University of Colorado Boulder, University of Arizona, and Arizona State University.
Under Chris's leadership, Lunar Helium-3 Mining has rapidly established itself as an innovator in the space resource sector, securing one of the first-ever patents for Helium-3 lunar mining. This is in addition to seven patent applications currently underway and one approval. Chris and his team are pioneering a unique strategy to mine Helium-3 from the Moon, developing specialized technologies that can overcome the extreme challenges of lunar mining, including dealing with abrasive lunar dust and extracting fuel from extremely low concentrations. Throughout his career, Chris has excelled in both leadership and clinical roles. Driven by a commitment to innovation, Chris has organized his professional pursuits around two core domains. In the field of Medical Innovation, such as through SharpMed, he is dedicated to advancing trauma surgery and developing revolutionary medical devices. His extensive clinical experience includes serving as a Surgeon and Trauma Director, a Military F-16 Flight Surgeon, State Air Surgeon for the Indiana Air National Guard, and a Volunteer Overseas Surgeon with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF).
In parallel, his work in Space Exploration focuses on pioneering lunar in-situ resource utilization, expanding the frontiers of space travel, and enhancing human adaptability in extraterrestrial environments.
Continuing his interdisciplinary journey, Chris is currently pursuing Ph.D. research in Mining and Mineral Engineering with an emphasis on lunar mining. His previous academic inquiries have also encompassed bioastronautics and space station design, underscoring his ability to integrate clinical expertise with advanced technological pursuits.
