Lifeboat Foundation NuclearShield
By the Lifeboat Foundation Scientific Advisory Board.
OVERVIEW
We support the
proposal by the
Nuclear Threat Initiative co-chaired by Ted Turner and Sam
Nunn to speed up implementation of the
Cooperative Threat Reduction (CTR) program to remove dangerous weapons
from the old Soviet Union.
We also believe that current efforts to combat nuclear proliferation
are not adequate. All means necessary should be used to stop countries
that support terrorism, such as North Korea and Iran, from obtaining
nuclear weapons. And if they obtain them, then all means necessary
should be
used to remove them from such countries. Failure to do so could have
devastating consequences.
It would also be helpful if diplomatic efforts were made to reduce the
number of countries that have nuclear weapons instead of the ominous
trend of more and more countries joining the "nuclear
club". The ideal number would be zero, of course.
