Julia Margo

Julia Margo is Associate Director, Team Leader, Directors’ Research Team, and Editor of PPR. She works at the Institute for Public Policy Research which is the UK’s leading progressive think tank, producing cutting edge research and innovative policy ideas for a just, democratic, and sustainable world.
 
Julia is a regular commentator in the international and national press. Her TV broadcast experience includes regular appearances on CNN, Channel 4 News, Sky News, BBC and ITN Evening News, Channel 5 News, BBC News 24, German Public Service Broadcasting Network, and MBC Television News (Al Arabiya). Her radio broadcast experience includes BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat, BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 5 Live, Talksport, LBC, and local radio. She has also written recently for The Sunday Times, New Statesman, and openDemocracy. She also writes for national, online, and specialist press.
 
She is an experienced chair and public speaker on a wide range of subjects.

Julia authored Make Me a Criminal: Preventing Youth Crime, coauthored Freedom’s Orphans: Raising Youth in a Changing World and Population Politics, edited Beyond Liberty: Is the Future of Liberalism Progressive?, and coedited Politics for a New Generation.
 
Before joining ippr, she worked at The Sunday Times as a commissioning editor of the News Review. Prior to that she worked as a researcher at New Statesman and at Demos, and as a researcher for various MPs.
 
Julia graduated from the University of Bristol in 2001 with a first class BSc in Politics and is now studying towards a masters in Government, Policy and Politics at Birkbeck.
