Dr. Gordon Arthur
Gordon Arthur, Ph.D. was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England in
February 1963. He went to Birmingham University, where he took a degree
physics, graduating in July 1984. Since leaving Birmingham he has
for BBC Enterprises, Molinare, and Sky Television, beginning as a
Recording (Videotape and Telecine) Operator, eventually rising to Senior
In June 1995, Gordon formed his own company, and went freelance in September 1995, beginning part-time study at the same time. He was, as a result, awarded a Master of Arts degree in Philosophy of Religion by King’s College, London in December 1997, and a Ph.D. in theology, also by King’s College, in September 2004. His Ph.D. explored how Authority operates in the Church, and how this is affected by the Church’s understanding of justice and judgement. It has been published by Ashgate with the title Law, Liberty, and Church: Authority and Justice in the Major Churches in England. He emigrated to Canada in July 2006.
His academic interests range from physics to theology, with much in between. He has not kept his physics up-to-date, but areas of cosmology and astronomy (for example attempts to explain puzzles like pulsars and quasars, planetary and stellar nebulae, and closer phenomena like comets – not to mention some of the gorgeous images produced by the Hubble Space Telescope and available at The Space Telescope Science Institute) have kept his attention.
