Knowledge ark roadmaps

Here are roadmaps which are proposed to build knowledge arks or doomsday vaults on Earth or in space.

Phase 1

• Spreading awareness about the concept of knowledge arks through media.
• Establishing working memorandums and relationships with organizations which align to the cause, such as space advocacy organizations and GLAMs (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, Museums).
• Early stages with regard to construction plans and artifact inclusion criteria.
• Publication and collection of research papers by academia regarding knowledge arks which aids in its development.
• Identifying entry points in political and influencer circles as a start in order to persuade politicians and leaders to support construction of knowledge arks. Ensure that space exploration and colonization become a "cool" thing in everyone's mind once again, which is a crucial step in order to construct knowledge arks beyond Earth.

Phase 2

• Start working with the entertainment and artistry fields to make creative works and other programmes which popularize the idea of knowledge arks.
• Supporting, encouraging and promoting the development of better data storage technologies which will lead to the creation of universal memories. A Universal memory is defined as having all of "the cost benefits of DRAM, the speed of SRAM, the non-volatility of flash memory along with infinite durability, and longevity".
• Getting in touch with politicians who are supportive with the cause to promote any legislation and decisions which will lead to increased financial support for NASA and space exploration activities. Legislation and decisions which will provide comfortable frameworks for the existences of knowledge arks should be supported too.
• Establishing non-profit organizations across the world dedicated to the generic goal of knowledge preservation.
• If there are moribund organizations which could be aligned to the cause then efforts can be mounted to take over them in legal fashions and revive them.

Phase 3

• Continuation and expansion of small-scale missions carrying nanofiches to the Moon and beyond, such as Mars.
• Scouting of locations on Earth, and beyond for ideal places to construct knowledge arks.
• Ensure nominal support for any initiatives which will drastically reduce the cost of space launches.
• By this phase the idea should be a popular one already. Work with UNESCO and other institutions, along with the hoi polloi, to select things which will be put into the first generation of knowledge arks.
• R&D works for developing management and regulatory structures regarding the maintenance of knowledge arks.

Phase 4

• Construction of knowledge arks, especially underground ones, across suitable locations on Earth.
• By this phase the management and regulatory structures for knowledge arks should've been completed.
• Preliminary ISRU experiments and missions beyond Earth.
• Introduction of space-based solar power systems.
• R&D works for next generation power systems such as fusion powers.

Phase 5

• Terrestrial-based knowledge arks should be completed by this phase.
• R&D in space construction and manufacturing.
• First missions to set up human bases on the Moon.
• More unmanned spacecraft missions beyond Mars.
• Universal memory should be invented by this phase.

Phase 6

• Start construction of knowledge arks on the Moon.
• The cost of space launches is supposed to be at generally affordable levels by this phase.

Phase 7

• Completion of at least one knowledge ark on the Moon.
• Initiate formal plans for constructing knowledge arks beyond the Moon, like the asteroid belt and the outer Solar System.

Phase 8

• More knowledge arks are constructed on the Moon.
• Human exploration of the outer Solar System.

Phase 9

• Start constructing free-floating knowledge arks beyond the Moon.
• Human colonization of the outer Solar System.

Phase 10

• By this phase, free-floating knowledge arks located as far as the asteroid belt should've been completed.
• Plan to construct knowledge arks at the outer Solar System.
