But when measuring in body lengths per second, the arthropod world is unmatched. And now we have a new record-holder \u2014 the fastest speed ever measured in an ant.<\/p>\n<p>The winner is the Saharan silver ant (<em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Saharan_silver_ant\">Cataglyphis bombycina<\/a><\/em>), and the speed is 855 millimetres (33.66 inches) per second.<\/p>\n<p>That may not sound like much to you, but that\u2019s 108 times the insect\u2019s body length per second. Even the cheetah can only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedaily.com\/releases\/2014\/04\/140427191124.htm\">manage 16 body lengths per second<\/a>.
