(<a href=\"https:\/\/memory-alpha.fandom.com\/wiki\/Star_Trek:_The_Next_Generation\" title=\"Star Trek: The Next Generation\"> TNG<\/a> : \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/memory-alpha.fandom.com\/wiki\/Datalore_(episode)\" title=\"Datalore (episode)\"> Datalore<\/a> \u201d) <\/p>\n<p>This device consisted of an <a href=\"https:\/\/memory-alpha.fandom.com\/wiki\/Artificial_intelligence\" title=\"Artificial intelligence\">artificial neural network<\/a>, designed to imitate the <a href=\"https:\/\/memory-alpha.fandom.com\/wiki\/Humanoid\" title=\"Humanoid\">humanoid<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/memory-alpha.fandom.com\/wiki\/Brain\" title=\"Brain\">brain<\/a>. The construction of a positronic brain was extremely complex, and Dr. Soong was the only <a href=\"https:\/\/memory-alpha.fandom.com\/wiki\/Scientist\" title=\"Scientist\">scientist<\/a> to have done so successfully \u2013 on at least six occasions: two unspecified <a href=\"https:\/\/memory-alpha.fandom.com\/wiki\/Prototype\" title=\"Prototype\">prototypes<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/memory-alpha.fandom.com\/wiki\/B-4\" title=\"B-4\">B-4<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/memory-alpha.fandom.com\/wiki\/Lore\" title=\"Lore\">Lore<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/memory-alpha.fandom.com\/wiki\/Data\" title=\"Data\">Data<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/memory-alpha.fandom.com\/wiki\/Juliana_Soong\" title=\"Juliana Soong\" class=\"\">Juliana Soong<\/a> (although the latter three were the only truly stable units).<\/p>\n<p>One of the difficulties in creating a stable positronic brain was determining how the electron resistance across the neural filaments was to be resolved.
