Unfortunately, that didn\u2019t quite pan out.<\/p>\n<p>The genetically-altered mosquitoes did mix with the wild population, and for a brief period the number of mosquitoes in Jacobino, Brazil did plummet, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41598-019-49660-6\">according to research<\/a> published in <em>Nature Scientific Reports<\/em> last week.
