For the ECC and zcash, the new project, <a href=\"https:\/\/electriccoin.co\/blog\/halo-recursive-proof-composition-without-a-trusted-setup\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\">Halo<\/a>, may hold the key to privacy at scale.<\/p>\n<p>A privacy coin based on zero-knowledge proofs, referred to as zk-SNARKs, zcash\u2019s current underlying protocol relies on \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/z.cash\/technology\/paramgen\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\">trusted setups<\/a>.\u201d These mathematical parameters were used twice in zcash\u2019s short history: upon its launch in 2016 and first large protocol change, Sapling, in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Zcash masks transations through zk-SNARKs but the creation of initial parameters remains an issue.
