But that may change someday sooner than you think \u2014 thanks to 3D printing.<\/p>\n<p>Advances in the 3D printing of human tissue have moved fast enough that San Diego-based bio-printing company Organovo now expects to unveil the world\u2019s first printed organ \u2014 a human liver \u2014 next year.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"border: 0px none;\" title=\"Liver tissue\" alt=\"Liver tissue\" src=\"\" width=\"1163\" height=\"655\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Like other forms of 3D printing, bio-printing lays down layer after layer of material \u2014 in this case, live cells \u2014 to form a solid physical entity \u2014 in this case, human tissue.
