In fact, our world is designed perfectly for those who are detached,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quora.com\/Why-are-there-so-few-experts-on-being-an-HSP-Highly-sensitive-person#bid=926466\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow external noopener noreferrer\">wrote Nicole Hollingshead<\/a>, a Canadian empowerment blogger, in response to a <em>Quora<\/em> question about the highly sensitive person (HSP) trait. Her statement illustrates the way that most HSPs feel when comparing themselves to their seemingly unfazed non-HSP peers.<\/p>\n<p>The term highly sensitive person was coined in the 1990s by husband and wife psychologist team Elaine Aron and Arthur Aron. The HSP trait is synonymous with the term <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sensory_processing_sensitivity\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow external noopener noreferrer\">sensory processing sensitivity<\/a> (SPS) and is thought to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0149763416304754\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow external noopener noreferrer\">genetically determined<\/a> and present at birth.
