Voyager 1 and 2 are 13.5 billion and 11.1 billion miles from Earth, respectively, and it\u2019s up to NASA engineers to ensure they remain up and running for as long as possible.<\/p>\n<p>As the agency reveals in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/feature\/jpl\/a-new-plan-for-keeping-nasas-oldest-explorers-going\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">a new update<\/a>, mission managers recently decided to shut down one of the heaters on Voyager 2 which is designed to keep its cosmic ray subsystem (CRS) instrument at a comfortable temperature.
