The observation establishes a link between the two, adding to our knowledge of the wild physics that takes place inside thunderstorms.<\/p>\n<p>The researchers reported the \u201cunequivocal simultaneous detection\u201d of a minute-long \u201cgamma-ray glow\u201d followed by a powerful, millisecond-long \u201cterrestrial gamma-ray flash,\u201d or TGF. Though scientists have observed these two events before, they don\u2019t quite understand the connection between\u2014the glows and flashes have never been observed together.
