I\u2019m 56, at this time, and I believe that the inflection point at which computers, \u2018thinking machines\u2019 and AI may become infinitely and recursively powerful is no more than 20\u201325 years away, at most \u2014 and it might be as soon as 12\u201315 years from today.<\/p>\n<p>We are at \u20184\u2019 on the exponential curve, and this matters a lot because doubling a small number such as 0.01 does not make much of a difference while doubling 4\u20138\u201316\u201332\u201364 is another story altogether: timing is essential, and the future is bound to increasingly happen <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/ystdF6jN7hc?t=1m16s\">gradually, then suddenly<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/churchandstate.org.uk\/2019\/05\/why-the-singularity-is-certain-to-happen-in-my-own-lifetime\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear:both;\">Read more<\/div>\n<p><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I recently came to an important realisation: I will most likely see the so-called Singularity happen in my own lifetime.
