Now researchers have created a sensor-laden glove for just $10 and recorded the most comprehensive tactile dataset to date, which can be used to train machine learning algorithms to feel the world around them.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/singularityhub.com\/2019\/04\/09\/watch-these-robots-do-tasks-you-thought-were-simple-but-for-them-are-pretty-hard\/\">Dexterity<\/a> would be an incredibly useful skill for robots to master, opening up new applications everywhere from hospitals to our homes. And they\u2019ve been coming along in leaps and strides in their ability to manipulate objects, OpenAI\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2018\/7\/30\/17621112\/openai-robot-dexterity-dactyl-artificial-intelligence\">cube juggling robotic hand<\/a> being a particularly impressive example.<\/p>\n<p>So far, though, they\u2019ve had one hand tied behind their backs. Most approaches have relied on using either visual data or demonstrations to show machines how they should <a href=\"https:\/\/singularityhub.com\/2018\/09\/18\/mits-new-robot-taught-itself-to-pick-things-up-the-way-people-do\/\">grasp objects<\/a>.
