{"id":91224,"date":"2019-05-23T12:23:38","date_gmt":"2019-05-23T19:23:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog\/2019\/05\/bipolar-disorder-may-be-linked-to-parkinsons-disease"},"modified":"2019-05-23T12:23:38","modified_gmt":"2019-05-23T19:23:38","slug":"bipolar-disorder-may-be-linked-to-parkinsons-disease","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog\/2019\/05\/bipolar-disorder-may-be-linked-to-parkinsons-disease","title":{"rendered":"Bipolar disorder may be linked to Parkinson\u2019s disease"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"aligncenter blog-photo\" href=\"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog.images\/bipolar-disorder-may-be-linked-to-parkinsons-disease.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>People who have bipolar disorder may be more likely to later develop Parkinson\u2019s disease than people who do not have bipolar disorder, according at a study published in the May 22, 2019, online issue of <i>Neurology<\/i>, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPrevious studies have shown a relationship between depression and Parkinson\u2019s disease, but few studies have looked at whether there is a relationship between <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/bipolar+disorder\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">bipolar disorder<\/a> and Parkinson\u2019s,\u201d said study author Mu-Hong Chen, MD, Ph.D., of Taipei Veterans General Hospital in Taiwan.<\/p>\n<p>For the study, researchers examined a national Taiwanese health database for people were diagnosed with <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/bipolar\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">bipolar<\/a> disorder between 2001 and 2009 and who had no history of Parkinson\u2019s disease, for a total of 56,340 people. They were matched with 225,360 people of the same age, sex and other factors who had never been diagnosed with bipolar disorder or Parkinson\u2019s disease as a control group.
