A human trial <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fightaging.org\/archives\/2018\/03\/results-from-a-preliminary-human-trial-of-nicotinamide-riboside-supplementation\/\">demonstrated improved vascular function<\/a> as a result of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fightaging.org\/archives\/2016\/07\/an-educational-article-on-the-business-of-selling-nicotinamide-riboside\/\">nicotinamide riboside supplementation<\/a>, for example. Researchers here show that increased NAD+ will likely make worse the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4166495\/\">inflammatory signaling<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cellular_senescence\">senescent cells<\/a>, however. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fightaging.org\/archives\/2014\/07\/aiming-to-remove-the-senescent-cell-contribution-to-aging-and-age-related-disease\/\">Senescent cells accumulate with age<\/a>, and are an important cause of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fightaging.org\/archives\/2016\/08\/considering-the-mechanisms-and-treatment-of-inflammaging\/\">chronic inflammation<\/a> of aging that drives the progression of many age-related diseases.<\/p>\n<p>The results here suggest that efficient <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fightaging.org\/archives\/2017\/09\/senolytic-therapies-to-clear-senescent-cells-will-transform-the-field-of-medicine-for-age-related-conditions\/\">senolytic treatments<\/a> to selectively destroy senescent cells should proceed any of the current approaches to raising levels of NAD+ in older individuals \u2014 and it is an open question as to whether any of the existing available options are efficient enough to make NAD+ enhancement safe in the longer term.
